Recapping last night’s games

Predators Cup Winners’ Bracket Semifinals
Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb 1, Father Ryan 0 (OT)
Hudson Honeybone scored the game’s only goal with eight seconds left in overtime, when he took advantage of an Austin Hester stumble, grabbed the puck, led a 2-on-0, and fired it into the bottom corner on the right-hand side of the Irish net. A simply great GNASH playoff game; one of the best I’ve ever covered. A great goaltending matchup between Zach Fonnesbeck and Bingston Soundara. A real shame that someone had to lose. Unfortunately for the Irish, they now have to play a Franklin team that shut them out twice in the regular season.

Next game for both teams
Father Ryan: Next Wednesday vs. Franklin @ 8:30 PM @ Centennial B in a Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinal
Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb: Next Wednesday vs. Montgomery Bell @ 7:30 PM @ Antioch-North in the Winners’ Bracket Final

Montgomery Bell 5, Ravenwood 1
Just past the halfway point of the first, Michael Dattilo scored the game’s first goal (his third in as many games) on a power play when he one-timed the puck through the legs of Brady Miller into the back of the Ravenwood net from the left point. Just over two minutes later, a loose puck came right out in front of the Ravenwood net, and Trace Graham picked it up, and backhanded it into the bottom corner on the right-hand side of the net. Right at 59.9 seconds, Matthew Moore scored on another MBA power play, when he fired the puck into the back of the net from the left circle, and the Big Red led 3-0 after one. Just 63 seconds into the second, Liam Powell intercepted a Brandon Fremgen pass right in the MBA slot, and fired it into the back of the net. Just over two minutes later, Ethan Sides went to pass the puck over to Lee Guy, only to have to it go off the stick of Oliver Lutz, and into the back of the net. With just over five minutes left in the second, Matthew Moore scored his second goal of the game, when a Powell pass attempt went nowhere behind the net; Moore grabbed the puck, and fired it into the back of the net. The 5-1 score held up through the final buzzer. And now, we get the Ensworth-MBA showdown we deserve.

Next game for both teams
Ravenwood: Next Wednesday vs. Pope Prep-MLK-GCA @ 7:10 PM @ Centennial A in a Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinal
Montgomery Bell: Next Wednesday vs. Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb @ 7:30 PM @ Antioch-North in the Winners’ Bracket Semifinal

Predators Cup Losers’ Bracket first round game
Pope Prep-MLK-GCA 5, Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill 1
Jacob Sullivan scored the game’s first goal just 26 seconds in. Clayton Roach made it 2-0 Pope just over two minutes later, with Erik Kihlberg sending Pope into the second with a 3-0 lead just over nine minutes later. No goals were scored in the second, so, it remained 3-0 Knights after two. Nearly six minutes into the third, Parker Triplett got the Bears on the board on a power play, but any hopes of a Mt. Juliet comeback were squashed just over two minutes later, when Sullivan scored his second goal of the game. 86 seconds later, Jack Davis scored the game’s final goal.

Next game for Pope Prep-MLK-GCA: Next Wednesday vs. Ravenwood @ 7:10 PM @ Centennial A in a Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinal

Henry Hine Cup Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinals
USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture 5, Centennial 2
Drake Hughes scored the opening goal just over four minutes into the first. Nearly two minutes later, Josh Peffer made it 2-0 USN, and that was the scored after one. Nearly three minutes into the second, Calvin Zacharias got the Cougars on the board, with Rhett Gordon tying the game almost eight minutes later, and it was 2-2 after two. Sean Advani scored the game-winner nearly three minutes into the third, with Ryan Barrett making it 4-2 just 49 seconds later. Barrett then scored an empty-netter with just seven second left.

Next game for USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture: Next Wednesday vs. Brentwood @ 8:40 PM @ Centennial A in the Losers’ Bracket Semifinal

Brentwood 3, Tennessee Outlaws 1
Ty Essenmacher scored the game’s first goal 38 seconds in, and it was 1-0 Bruins after one. Just past the halfway point of the second, Aidan Pustizzi made it 2-0, before Jacob Schenk got the Outlaws on the board on a power play 3:01 later, and Brentwood led 2-1 after two. Jack Schultz scored the game’s final goal, an empty-netter, with seven seconds left.

Requiem for the eliminated

Centennial
Departing Seniors: Cooper Davis, Rhett Gordon, Kade Henderson, Aiden and Blake Knecht
Henderson is in italics, as he was taken by Centennial in the goalie draft from Independence-Ravenwood 2
This is a “what could’ve been” season for Centennial. They dropped a lot of points in the first half that prevented them from moving back into Tier 1. They established themselves as one of Tier 2’s best team in the second half, but injuries stacked up at a bad time, and now, their season is over. I keep harping on about the fact that Williamson County has no sufficient ice, and that has affected Centennial for a while. Next year, they bring back Calvin Zacharias, Brendan Mitchell, and Alex Aziminia, just to name a few, but will it be enough to get them back to the top tier? And, could they be welcoming back an old friend for one more go?

Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill
Departing Seniors: Brandt Balz, Rylan Cripe, Tyler Dubois, Noah Smartt, Jacob Thomas, and Ryan Woods
It was going to be a difficult task to make a third straight Preds Cup Final. Losing the likes of Braylen Cox, Robbie Simonik, Easton Krenzke, and Wes Ray took out a bunch of the Bears’ offense. Now, they are parting with the likes of Dubois and Woods. This was a very young team, with 13 freshmen and sophomores combined. Leading scorer Jordan Antar should be back, and Carson Slocum will be back for his swansong season, as well.

Tennessee Outlaws
Departing Seniors: Hayden Hall, Brennan Lorinc, Michael Petak, Blake Rhodehamel, and Jacob Schenk
Another disappointing finish for the Outlaws, knocked out in the early rounds again, when it seems they had some promise. Losing Schenk is a big deal, and once again, we wonder: Could a Montgomery County-based team for next year hurt their recruiting figures? The addition of Rutherford limited them (although, they managed to get a kid on the team who lives in Gordonsville), and a like-for-like team in Montgomery County would do the same. The good news is, as long as no one starts up a co-op with Hillsboro, Josh Kuehn should be back next year.
