MTSN GNASH Newsletter for December 11, 2024

Tonight’s broadcast

Ravenwood vs. Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson - 8:25 PM pregame, 8:30 PM faceoff BROADCAST LINK

Senior Night ceremony

The Tennessee Outlaws are having their Senior Night ceremony tonight.

Scenarios for tonight

Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb will CLINCH the 2024-25 GNASH Cup regular season championship AND the Predators Cup 1 seed if Ravenwood LOSE TO Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson.

The Tennessee Outlaws will clinch a Predators Cup berth if they DEFEAT JPII-MLK, AND Station Camp-Liberty Creek LOSE TO OR TIE WITH the Montgomery County Rangers.

Previewing tonight’s games

All games are being played @ Centennial. The game that MTSN will broadcast is in BOLD.

Montgomery County Rangers (0-12-0) vs. Station Camp-Liberty Creek (3-6-2) - 7:10 PM on Rink A
Of the four teams below ninth place that can still get into the Predators Cup, Station Camp is the one that MBA and the Outlaws need to look over their shoulders for. One’s lost to the Bison (MBA), the other had their meeting end in a tie (Outlaws). The Bison have been a frustrating team to play for everyone this season, and have upped their game more and more as things have gone on. As for the Rangers, a loss would put them closer to the Hine Cup 8 seed; there’s still a chance for them to get to the 7 seed even after a loss tonight, because they still play Mt. Juliet, and in a scenario where both teams finished with four points each, the Rangers would go ahead of the Golden Bears due to having more wins (2 to 1), but I don’t see that happening.

Pick: Station Camp

Ravenwood (8-1-1) vs. Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson (9-2-1) - 8:30 PM on Rink B
So, the race for the GNASH Cup regular season championship can end tonight. That’s wild. It helps that Ensworth played all but one of their games before the holiday break, while Ravenwood only played half their regular season schedule before Thanksgiving, and are just now catching up. It’s also crazy to think that the Raptors’ loss to the Outlaws, that otherwise would be a “Oh, yeah, that happened, didn’t it?” moment, could end up having a massive butterfly effect that impacts the entire season. The Raptors are coming off of a 2-2 tie with Summit last Wednesday where the Spartans matched Ravenwood strength-for-strength, while Hendersonville are coming off of a 6-1 win over MBA on Monday where the Commandos totally dominated the second period. This game will very likely be the measuring stick for how high the Commandos can reach. They’ve steadily gotten better as the season has progressed, and a win over the Raptors would be a massive indicator of how far they’ve come. I don’t see it happening, though.

Pick: Ravenwood

Tennessee Outlaws (6-4-2) vs. JPII-MLK (8-3-0) - 8:45 PM on Rink A
If the Outlaws could, they would probably switch their closing stretch with Station Camp, considering that two of the Bison’s last four opponents are teams that the Outlaws have already beaten (Rangers and Indy). Centennial losing on Monday was a big help, because they can now only max out at 14 points (though the two don’t face each other until January 15, and since it’s the Cougars’ Senior Night, that means the Outlaws will have to face Drew Stratton in goal), but they still need to at least tie their next game (tomorrow against Father Ryan) to ensure that the Outlaws will finish ahead of them before the two finally meet. They still need the other three pursuers to all drop points, though. It’s very likely that the Outlaws finish on 14 points and need to go into “pray everyone else around us falls” mode. Meanwhile, the Knights have clinched a Preds Cup berth, so now, the name of the game is getting a high a seed as possible (they can still finish as high as second). They’ll be playing pressure-free in their final game before the holiday break.

Pick: JPII
