Senior Night ceremonies

The Montgomery County Rangers are holding their Senior Night ceremony tonight.

Scenarios for tonight

Franklin will clinch a Predators Cup berth if Centennial-FRA LOSE TO OR TIE WITH Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian.

Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson will clinch a Predators Cup berth if they DEFEAT the Montgomery County Rangers, AND Centennial-FRA LOSE TO OR TIE WITH Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian.

Ravenwood will clinch a Predators Cup berth if they DEFEAT Summit-Page; OR they TIE WITH Summit-Page, AND Centennial-FRA TIE WITH Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian; OR they LOSE TO Summit-Page, AND Centennial-FRA LOSE TO Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian.

Previewing tonight’s games

The game that MTSN will broadcast is in BOLD.

Station Camp-Liberty Creek (2-6-2) vs. Father Ryan (2-6-1) - 7:10 PM @ Centennial A
The Bison take the ice for the first time since their incredible comeback win against the Rampage two weeks ago. The Irish are playing for the first time since losing 6-1 to Franklin on November 14. Both teams’ last five games have gone somewhat similarly: The Irish have lost four of their last five (the one non-loss being their win over the Rangers on November 6), while the Bison have lost three of their last five (in addition to the win over the Rampage, they also tied with the Outlaws on November 6). This should be a very good game. Neither team is very deep, but their prominent offensive players are pretty good (Colin Sullivan and Gage Hart for the Irish; Joey Siciliano, Jadon Robertson, and Toby Mehaffy for the Bison). If I were Bison head coach Keith Grooms, I’d roll with Miller Campbell in goal again; he’s 2-0-1 in his last three starts; I wonder who the Irish will go with: Jack Karpynec, who’s been in the crease for both of their wins, or Zach Fonnesbeck, who (shockingly) doesn’t have a win yet this season? Regardless, this should be a close one.

Pick: Ryan

Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson (7-2-1) vs. Montgomery County Rangers (0-10-0) - 7:30 PM @ Ford-Clarksville
It’s another milestone night for the Rangers, as they hold their first Senior Night ceremony, and they play their second and final game this season in their home rink. They are taking on a Hendersonville team that’s hitting the ice for the first time since beating Father Ryan 6-0 on November 11. If the Commandos bring even half the effort they put in against the Irish tonight, they’ll win this game handily. A win is important for them, not just because they’ll clinch a Preds Cup berth if Centennial don’t beat Indy, but because they play MBA and Ravenwood next week (then JPII in their first game back from the holiday break on January 15), so banking two more points would be crucial.

Pick: Hendersonville

Centennial-FRA (4-6-0) vs. Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian (2-7-1) - 8:30 PM @ Centennial B
So…this game is hard to read. Centennial have been very…meh…this season. They’ve scored 24 goals in ten games. They’ve only allowed 32, but that’s because of Drew Stratton. They’re going up against an Indy team that skated to dominant wins over Father Ryan and the Rampage, an Indy team that finally gets Barrett Teasdale back in the lineup tonight after serving a seven-game suspension that spanned exactly two months (it started on October 2, then ended this past Monday, December 2). Teasdale is going to have to tone down the aggressiveness, though, because if he does something to get another suspension, they might make it so long, that it won’t run out before Indy’s postseason run ends (speaking of that, Indy can still get into the Preds Cup; they can still finish as high as 5th; it’s not likely, but I’m just pointing out why some teams in the bottom eight have been handed Hine Cup spots, while some others haven’t). To me, this game comes down to Centennial’s goalie selection. If it’s Stratton, I don’t think Indy have a chance; if it’s David Busby, they’ve got a shot.

Pick: Centennial

Ravenwood (8-1-0) vs. Summit-Page (6-2-0) - 8:45 PM @ Centennial A
So, the mission for the Raptors is simple: Win and they’re in the Preds Cup again. They’re playing a Summit team taking the ice for the first time since beating the Rangers 13-1 on November 13. The Spartans are certainly a good team, but their two-game losing streak in October where they lost to Hendersonville and Brentwood is glaring; losing to the Commandos is understandable, but losing to this Brentwood is not. Summit are kicking off a stretch of three games in six days, taking on the Outlaws on Friday in their Senior Night game, then, going up against Ensworth on Monday. It would not surprise me if they lost all three games. Yes, they are a Top 8 team, but they aren’t one of the best. This is the teams’ first meeting since 8 seed Ravenwood beat 1 seed Summit-Page in the opening round of the Predators Cup back on February 8.

Pick: Ravenwood
