Henry Hine Cup Winners’ Bracket Semifinals
Father Ryan 6, Rutherford Rampage 2
Just 56 seconds into the game, Brendan Malloy topped the puck on a shot attempt from the blue line, pushing it down into the left circle, where Hudson Laux (yes, the same Hudson Laux who began the season playing for Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson, but transferred from James Lawson to Father Ryan in December, and I literally just learned about this LAST NIGHT) was waiting to shoot into the wide open bottom right-hand corner of the Rampage net, as goalie Jackson Wilson couldn’t see the puck through the crowd. Nearly ten minutes later, Curtis Newman carried the puck down the right wing side of the Rampage zone, and sent a centering pass to the front of the net; now at first, I thought Noah Deffenbaugh redirected it in from in front, but it actually pinballed between Wilson’s legs and went in. The Irish took the 2-0 lead into the second period. Just past the halfway point of the second, Gage Hart beat a Rampage defender (I couldn’t tell who it was) to the puck at the Rutherford blue line, carried it down the slot, and shot it in past Wilson’s blocker. Nearly four minutes later, Parker Causey passed the puck across to Colin Sullivan in the left circle, where he one-timed it in, and it was 4-0 Father Ryan after two. The Rampage got on the board just over 3:30 into the third on the power play, when William Haynes potted the rebound from a saved Dylan Welch shot. But the comeback wasn’t to be; just over 5:30 later, Sullivan scored his second goal, tucking in another Parker Causey centering pass from in front, sending it in underneath Wilson’s left leg. Exactly three minutes later, Sullivan completed his hat trick, shooting the puck from the high slot, and having it go in through Wilson’s left arm. The Rampage scored the game’s last goal with three seconds left, when a Brennen Tellez shot hit the post to the right of Irish goalie Zach Fonnesbeck, and Tucker Wilhelm shot the rebound in. Fonnesbeck looked like the version we got used to last year, the version that stopped just about everything in sight. By my count, he made 30 saves on 32 shots. As for the Rampage, that was an ugly loss, and now, they have to play a Brentwood team who will be hellbent on avenging last year’s loss in the final.
Next game for both teams

Predators Cup Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinals
Montgomery Bell 6, Tennessee Outlaws 1
Nearly five minutes into the first, Matthew Moore scored the game’s first goal on the power play, when he tucked the puck into the back of the Outlaws’ net from the right-hand side. Just over five minutes later, Clive Keeler tied the game up for the Outlaws on the penalty kill, when he carried the puck down the right wing and shot it into the roof of the net from right at the left-hand post. Keeler nearly scored again right at the end of the first, when he shot the puck off the outside of the same left-hand post, and the Big Red were lucky to escape the first period tied at 1-1. That missed chance was a wakeup call, because they completely strangled the Outlaws’ attack for the rest of the game. Near the halfway point of the second, Ethan Moore potted the game-winning goal on the power play off of a saved Michael Dattilo shot. 82 seconds later, Trace Graham made it 3-1, when Matthew Moore found him standing all alone at the right-hand side of the Outlaws’ net, and fed him the puck; Graham moved across the front of the net, and tucked it into the bottom corner on the left-hand side. Just over 3:30 later, Ethan Sides put MBA up 4-1, when he one-timed a no-look, backhanded centering pass from the elder Moore into the back of the net, and that was the score after two. 55 seconds into the third period, Abe Lasher scored on the power play, when he took a shot from the blue line that went through traffic into the top right-hand corner of the Outlaw net. 22 seconds later, Ben Eadie scored the game’s final goal, when he buried his own rebound.
With 10:27 left in the game, something strange happened: Abe Lasher was asked to leave the game because he was not on the Big Red’s roster on the GameSheet box score. Now, I have personal assurance from higher-ups in the league that Lasher is playoff-eligible, as he was granted a medical waiver due to not appearing in at least five regular season games (he only appeared in one, the Big Red’s regular season finale against Summit on January 30). In all my 16 years of covering GNASH, I’ve never seen this happen. I’m told that he hasn’t been on the GameSheet roster for the playoffs because the league registrar, who would be the person entering that information, has been out-of-town. I know that some people would be suspicious, but I find it hard to believe that MBA would try to be sneaky with Abe Lasher. He’s a future offensive leader, but right now, he’s a good role player, feeding pucks to Matthew Moore and Trace Graham, and scoring when he can, like last night. They dominated last night’s game for the last two periods, and held down the fort even after he was removed from the bench; the game had been won by that point. They also won nine regular season games without him. It seems like simple miscommunication.
Next game for Montgomery Bell: Next Wednesday vs. Franklin in the Predators Cup Losers’ Bracket Semifinal @ 8:40 PM @ Centennial A
The night’s other game
Predators Cup Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinal
Franklin 5, Summit-Page 4 (OT)
Man, did I swing and miss on this one. Wyatt Gerischer scored twice for the Admirals, including the game-winner in overtime, with their other goals coming from Josh Yurjevich, Hank Hayes, and Quinn Spencer. Madden Chandler scored twice for the Spartans, with their other goals coming from Jacob Rodrigue and Hudson Halters. A heartbreaking end to the season for the 4 seed Summit, who are knocked out of the Preds Cup by Franklin for the second straight year.

Requiem for the Eliminated
Summit-Page
Departing Seniors: Zach Ellis, Zak Petersen, Jacob Rodrigue, Sean Scott, Seth Wagner
Another “what could’ve been” season for the Spartans. They would’ve been right in the thick of the GNASH Cup fight had it not been for the back-to-back losses to Hendersonville and Brentwood in October. The only team to match Ravenwood’s speed, and now, we don’t get a rematch in the playoffs between them. What a bummer. With Wagner’s departure, they’ll need a goalie to back up Brady Tessier. This team is SO CLOSE. If all of their juniors return next year, they’ll have nine seniors. Next year will be the year to try and get it right with this core.
Tennessee Outlaws
Departing Seniors: Dalton Alejandro, Elijah Freeman, Gabriel Hill, Aiden Kemp, AJ Molloy, Nico Pulley, Jack Restey, Cody Skelton*
*-Skelton departed the team in December to play for the Iron County Yeti of the USPHL’s Premier Division
The Outlaws should be very proud of the season they had. They beat Ravenwood, tied with Ensworth, only lost 2-1 to Hendersonville, and knocked 5 seed JPII out of the Predators Cup as the 8 seed. Yes, a four-game losing streak to finish the regular season nearly derailed their Preds Cup qualification hopes, but the fact that they put in the work and got it over the line says a lot. They’re losing some good offensive talent in Alejandro, Freeman, and Molloy, but they’ll have Josh Kuehn, Logan Wood, and Clive Keller back next season (unless, in Keeler’s case, someone starts a co-op with Fairview, which is a slight possibility, because Indy will need goalies next season). I hope Anna Markova comes back next season, too, because her story is awesome, representing her country at the highest level of women’s international hockey, and winning a world championship. The Outlaws’ JV team is the defending JV league champions, and as of right now, they’re 12-0-0 in the regular season with the playoffs approaching, so, they’ll probably be the favorites to repeat. The future is bright for the Tennessee Outlaws, it seems.
