Recapping last night’s game

Henry Hine Cup Winners’ Bracket Semifinal
Father Ryan 6, JPII-MLK-GCS 3
Gage Hart scored the game’s first goal just 14 seconds in, when he fired the puck into the roof of the net from just inside the top of the right circle. 67 seconds later, with the Irish on the power play, Sam Halloran backhanded the puck across the ice to the left circle to Hart, who shot it into the back of the net between the legs of JPII goalie Ethan Hickerson, starting in place of Collier Owen, who was out with an ankle injury he suffered against Mt. Juliet back on Monday night. Just over 10:30 later, Halloran brought the puck back into the JPII zone from center just after it had been cleared, and passed it to Hart in the high slot, and he fired it over Hickerson’s glove into the back of the net to complete his hat trick, and it was 3-0 Irish after one. Nearly five minutes into the second, Danny Libby brought the puck into the JPII zone, and took a shot from the right circle that missed the net to Hickerson’s left, hit the end boards, then came back out to Hickerson’s right to a waiting Halloran in the left circle, and he one-timed it into the back of the net. One second shy of eight minutes later, Ian Sullivan took a shot from the right circle of the Father Ryan zone, and Jack Karpynec made a blocker save, only for the rebound to go up the slot to Winston Walker, who shot it into the back of the net, and it was 4-1 Ryan after two. Just over five minutes into the third, Hart was at the bottom of the right circle, and saw Michael Jaskoski all alone in front, feeding him the puck, and Jaskoski shot it over the blocker of Hickerson into the roof of the net. Just over 1:40 later, Hugo Ford took the puck off a Father Ryan player inside the Irish zone, carried it to the right circle, and shot it into the back of the net. Following this goal, Hickerson was replaced by Hendersonville third-stringer Cade Garrett, brought in for the night from the goalie pool. It was just the second time this season that Garrett played in goal, his only appearance for the Commandos being the 7-5 win over Brentwood on November 10 where he played the full 42 minutes; earlier this week, he played in the Ravenwood game as a skater for Hendersonville. Just over three minutes after the first Ford goal, the Irish were back on the power play, and Hart moved through the bottom of the left circle to the right-hand side of the JPII net, getting off a backhanded shot that Garrett stopped, only for Ridgeway Lambert to send the rebound across to the left-hand side, where Halloran tapped it into the wide-open cage for his second of the game. Ford scored the game’s final goal and his second with just 66 seconds left with the Knights on the power play, when Joe Hiller passed him the puck from the left point down to the bottom of the left circle, and Ford fired it in off of the front of the post to Karpynec’s right. So, the 1 seed Irish are a step away from the Hine Cup Final, and now wait to see who they will play in the Winners’ Bracket Final - the Outlaws or Indy. Meanwhile, JPII will hope that Owen’s ankle will be fine in 10 days, when they face Brentwood with their season on the line.

JV playoffs updated bracket

The JV league playoffs began last night, with the Clarksville Kings defeating Harpeth Hall 7-0 in the play-in game between the 8th and 9th place finishers in the regular season (yes, there were only nine teams in the Preds-run JV league this season; that’s…not great). The Kings will now face regular season champions Hendersonville, who went a perfect 12-0-0, tonight in the first of three quarterfinal matchups in Bellevue (the other QF will be played next Thursday).

The 2026 GNASH postseason is underway, and we are offering playoff-only memberships! As usual, they will be the newsletter shoutout, or the Package of Perks! However, instead of scrolling down to “Become a member”, make your payment at the top of our Buymeacoffee page where it says, “Support Middle Tennessee Sports Network” (screenshot below). The cost is $7.50 for a newsletter shoutout, and $15 for a Package of Perks. There will be no monthly payment for these packages; they are one-time only memberships (I can’t disable monthly payments; that’s why I’m having you do it differently). If you have already paid for a membership, you do not need to do anything, as your membership is good for the whole season. For those who purchase these packages, newsletter shoutouts will not start until after the regular season. As always, if you purchase the Package of Perks, please let me know what team you support, so I can shout you out on-air, and now what games to send you as downloadable MP3s.
