Previewing tonight’s game

Henry Hine Cup Winners’ Bracket Semifinal
#3 Tennessee Outlaws vs. #2 Independence-Centennial - 8:30 PM @ Antioch-North
(MTSN pregame begins at 8:25 PM BROADCAST LINK)
How they got here:
-Outlaws: defeated Brentwood 5-3 on February 9 in the first round
-Independence: defeat Clarksville 9-2 on February 9 in the first round
Regular season meeting: Independence won 4-3 on January 12
Both teams won their first round games…well, it depends on what your definition of “comfortably” is. Indy certainly won comfortably over Clarksville, going up 6-0 before allowing Aidan Hasse to get a couple for the Kings, then finding another gear in the third to score three more. Meanwhile, the Outlaws went out to a comfortable 5-1 lead over Brentwood, before the Bruins got a couple back to make them sweat the rest of the game out. We can’t really tell anything from the Indy/Kings game, since it was a blowout, while the tight finish between the Outlaws and Brentwood requires some more attention. But we can just examine that January 12 game to see how tonight’s might go. Indy dominated the first two periods, outshooting the Outlaws 26-7 in the first two frames. They were up 3-0 after two, and went up 4-0 shortly before the halfway point of the third, before the Outlaws scored three goals in just over three minutes near the end of the game to ultimately fall short. The standout stat was the fact that Clive Neal was in goal for the Eagles that night, making his third and final start of the regular season; the Outlaws picked up their play in the third, but he didn’t wilt, and the Eagles came out with the win. Were the Outlaws simply not motivated because it was Neal in goal (he’s on-loan to Indy from the Outlaws via the goalie pool draft before the season started, it should be noted), and not David Busby, and maybe they’d get an easy win against their teammate, only to fall further and further behind as the game went on, or were the Eagles just that good over the first two-thirds of the game? We’ll find out the answer tonight, since Busby will very likely be in the crease for Indy. I keep (deservedly) lauding the duo of Josh Kuehn and Clive Keeler, but Mark White has quietly emerged as maybe their third-best skater; he’s quick and knows how to maneuver around defenders and get to the net. His two-goal, one-assist performance against Brentwood last week wasn’t a surprise. Simply put, the Outlaws will have to come strong out of the gate tonight. Let’s talk suspensions: Indy’s Owen Brought is serving the third of his 11-game suspension for his actions in the January 12 game between these two teams; Logan Wood, who got into that fight with Brought, is back in the lineup for the Outlaws tonight after serving his two-game suspension, as is Indy head coach Mark Layne, who also got a two-game suspension for his team breaching the 12-penalty and three-major/match penalty maximums in that contest. Meanwhile, Bob Cobb was indeed suspended for getting an unsportsmanlike conduct match penalty in the Outlaws’ regular season finale against Page-Summit: three games, in fact, and he served the first of those last week. It’s a good thing the Outlaws won last week, because it means that he will fulfill that ban regardless of his team’s performance tonight.

The 2026 GNASH postseason is halfway through, and we are taking 50% off of our playoff-only memberships! As usual, they will be the newsletter shoutout, or the Package of Perks! However, instead of scrolling down to “Become a member”, make your payment at the top of our Buymeacoffee page where it says, “Support Middle Tennessee Sports Network” (screenshot below). The cost is now $3.75 for a newsletter shoutout, and $7.50 for a Package of Perks. There will be no monthly payment for these packages; they are one-time only memberships (I can’t disable monthly payments; that’s why I’m having you do it differently). If you have already paid for a membership, you do not need to do anything, as your membership is good for the whole season. For those who purchase these packages, newsletter shoutouts will not start until after the regular season. As always, if you purchase the Package of Perks, please let me know what team you support, so I can shout you out on-air, and now what games to send you as downloadable MP3s.
