Last night’s broadcast

Recapping last night’s game

Henry Hine Cup Winners’ Bracket Semifinal
Independence-Centennial 4, Tennessee Outlaws 2
With just over two minutes left in the first, Josh Kuehn brought the puck to the Indy left point, where an Aiden Gardner poke check attempt was unsuccessful, and Kuehn found Logan Wood, back from a two-game suspension, all alone at the left-hand side of the net, passed him the puck, and Wood scored to have the Outlaws up 1-0 after one. Just two seconds shy of the halfway point of the second and regulation, Gardner went to the front of the Outlaws net, where his shot was stopped by goalie Dawson Reynolds, only for Hank Walker to be trailing, and knock the rebound into the bottom right-hand corner. Just over four minutes later, with the Outlaws on the power play, Oskar Dubon attempted to clear the puck up the bleachers-side boards while standing next to the left-hand post of its net; the puck went right to J. Kuehn standing at the right half-wall, and he moved through the right circle, and fired it into the roof of the net. 50 seconds later, Alice Cox failed to clear a loose puck from her own right circle, allowing Walker to grab it, move through said circle to the front of the net, and score his second goal of the game, which was tied 2-2 after two. Just over three minutes into the third, Nick Claas moved through the left circle towards the right-hand side of the Outlaws net, and shot the puck in through Reynolds’s legs. 53 seconds later, Walker completed his hat trick, when the puck came to him at the left edge of the slot, and he shot it into the top left-hand corner to seal the win for the Eagles, and now, we get a 1 vs. 2 showdown in the Winners’ Bracket Final that I’m going to miss, because I’ll be at Centennial calling the one for the Preds Cup.

Previewing tonight’s games

All games will be played @ Centennial. The games that MTSN will broadcast are in BOLD.

Predators Cup Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinals - both games on Rink A
#4 Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson vs. #3 Page-Summit - 7:10 PM
How they got here
Hendersonville:
-lost 5-4 to Franklin on February 3 in the first round
-defeated Ravenwood 7-3 on February 9 in the Losers’ Bracket first round
Page:
-defeated Ensworth-Lipscomb-CPA 3-1 on February 4 in the first round
-lost 4-1 to Nolensville last Wednesday in the Winners’ Bracket Semifinals
Regular season meeting: Page won 5-3 on November 3
It was the November 3 game between these two teams that potentially turned Page’s season around; trailing 3-2 after two periods, the Spartriots had been playing as individuals and not as a team. After forceful instructions from head coach Greg Sauers, Page got their stuff together, and put together a great third period that saw them come from behind to snatch the win, and kept that going through last week. The difference was stark; if that game against Nolensville had occurred earlier in the season in October, Page might’ve laid down and let it go (like the Indy game from that month). But even after a bad first period last week, the Spartriots didn’t quit; even after going down 4-0, Page were determined to at least not get shut out, putting a goal on their side of the board in the game’s final minute after a netmouth scramble. Meanwhile, the Commandos bounced back from their opening round collapse against Franklin by absolutely taking Ravenwood to the cleaners, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in what may be the most shocking first period in GNASH history. It was their finest game of the season by far, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Seth Lake says his players love to play hockey, and they’re ready for to continue the long journey through the Losers’ Bracket to try and end up as kings of the mountain; that should serve as a warning to the rest of the remaining contenders.

Game prediction: Hendersonville

#8 Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian vs. #2 Montgomery Bell - 8:45 PM
How they got here
Station Camp:
-defeated Ravenwood 7-4 on February 4 in the first round
-lost 6-0 to Franklin last Wednesday in the Winners’ Bracket Semifinals
Montgomery Bell:
-lost 2-1 to Nolensville on February 4 in the first round
-defeated Ensworth-Lipscomb-CPA 4-3 in overtime on February 9 in the Losers’ Bracket first round
Regular season meeting: Montgomery Bell won 6-3 on January 12
The Bison’s sudden resurgence was ground to a sudden halt by the Admirals last week. Franklin were better prepared for Station Camp this time around in sharp contrast to their previous meeting nine days before, making sure that the likes of Toby Mehaffy and McClain Gregory couldn’t get into any open space. They wore them down over the course of the third, forcing a goaltending change. Can the Bison bounce back again? Meanwhile, the Big Red are lucky to still be here; they trailed Ensworth 2-0 after the first, then fell behind 3-1 just before the halfway point of regulation, with Ethan Moore getting a goal back to have them down one after two, then Trace Graham tying the game early in the third, then winning it in the first minute of overtime. I’m still skeptical that this team can go all the way, but I think they’re surviving another chop of the ax tonight. Abe Lasher is suspended for this game, as he was called for four penalties against Ensworth.

Game prediction: MBA

Consequences of these games’ results: The winners will play each other in the Losers’ Bracket Semifinal next Monday @ 8:15 PM @ Centennial B, while the losers are eliminated

Henry Hine Cup Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinal
#5 Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Lebanon vs. #3 Tennessee Outlaws - 8:30 PM on Rink B
How they got here
Mt. Juliet:
-lost 6-5 to JPII-MLK-GCS on February 9 in the first round
-defeated Rutherford Rampage 8-4 on February 10 in the Losers’ Bracket first round
Outlaws:
-defeated Brentwood-BA-USN 5-3 on February 9 in the first round
-lost 4-2 to Independence-Centennial last night in the Winners’ Bracket Semifinal
Regular season meeting: Outlaws won 4-3 on October 22
So, the Outlaws are now at a disadvantage, having to take on a rested Mt. Juliet team that last played eight days ago, less than 24 hours after losing to Indy. In the regular season meeting in October, the Bears actually outshot Tennessee by almost double (35-18, to be exact). These two teams are closer than you might think. Their depth scoring is pretty much even, and if Mt. Juliet had Cade Ellenburg all season, they might’ve finished ahead of the Outlaws. I don’t know, I’m thinking a Top 4 seed might be going down tonight.

Game prediction: Mt. Juliet

Consequences of this game’s result: The winner will play the Brentwood/JPII winner in the Losers’ Bracket Semifinal next Wednesday @ 7:10 PM @ Centennial A, while the loser is eliminated

However, instead of scrolling down to “Become a member”, make your payment at the top of our Buymeacoffee page where it says, “Support Middle Tennessee Sports Network” (screenshot below). The cost is now $3.75 for a newsletter shoutout, and $7.50 for a Package of Perks. There will be no monthly payment for these packages; they are one-time only memberships (I can’t disable monthly payments; that’s why I’m having you do it differently). If you have already paid for a membership, you do not need to do anything, as your membership is good for the whole season. For those who purchase these packages, newsletter shoutouts will not start until after the regular season. As always, if you purchase the Package of Perks, please let me know what team you support, so I can shout you out on-air, and now what games to send you as downloadable MP3s.
