Predators Cup Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinals
Page-Summit 4, Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson 3
Page scored the opening goal just eight seconds in: They won the opening faceoff, and Brayden Owen brought it into the Hendersonville zone, taking a shot from the right circle that hit goalie Griffen Rumbaugh in the stomach, and landed in the crease; Aiden Meyer took the rebound, moved to the bottom of the left circle, and shot it into the bottom corner on the left-hand side of the net. Very nearly 13 minutes later, Caleb Carlance led a 2-on-1 into the Page zone, carrying the puck down the left wing, closing in on the net, and passing across to Landon Croft, who one-timed it in, and it was 1-1 after one. Nearly five minutes into the second, Carlance brought the puck into the Page zone, and took a shot from the left circle while falling; Spartriots goalie Justin Iannuccilli couldn’t reel it in to cover, and a crowd of bodies at the front of the net allowed Caden Sisco to grab the loose puck in front, and shoot it in. Over 6:30 later, Owen carried the puck from his own zone down the benches side of the ice into the Hendersonville zone on the left wing, and as he approached the net, Carlance fell backwards in the slot, letting Owen go to the front of the net, and tuck it in past Rumbaugh. Carlance then got up, and broke his stick on the net in frustration, earning himself a ten-minute misconduct, and taking one of Hendersonville’s absolute best players off the ice for a long period. 73 seconds later, with Page on the power play, they won a draw in the Hendersonville zone, and Aiden Garner took a shot from the right point into traffic, deflecting off of a stick, and slowing down significantly, coming right to Hudson Halters at the front of the net, and he buried it in a wide-open net as Rumbaugh had drifted out of position to his left. Page led 3-2 after two. Nearly five minutes into the third, Hendersonville were on a power play; Merrick Mott was behind the Page net, and fired off a centering pass to Braden Rose in the left circle, where he one-timed it into the roof of the net, as Iannuccilli had no idea where the puck was. But just over 8:30 later, when it appeared that the game would go to overtime, Madden Chandler brought the puck into Hendersonville zone down the left-wing boards, and noticed Rumbaugh slightly out of position, and from just above the left-wing corner along the goal line, fired the puck into the top left-hand corner of the net to give the Spartriots an incredible win to finish off an incredible game.
Montgomery Bell 5, Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian 4 (OT)
With just under five minutes left in the first, and the Bison on the power play, Merritt Freeman scored the game’s first goal from the right faceoff dot, firing it into the roof of the net. Nearly two minutes later, Toby Mehaffy brought the puck into the MBA zone, and took a shot from the high slot that appeared to deflect off the stick of the backchecking Conner Mazzoni (remember that name in this recap), and bounce over the outstretched right leg of Big Red goalie Tripp Bland into the back of the net, and it was 2-0 MBA after one. Just over 3:30 into the second, with the game in a 4-on-4 situation, McClain Gregory dropped the puck back into his own zone from center, trying to get it to Freeman, but Gregory didn’t pass the puck hard enough, and Trace Graham grabbed it, carried it around the back of the net, and fed Matthew Moore a centering pass that he buried from right in front. Nearly two minutes later, MBA won a draw in the Camp zone, and Mazzoni fired the puck into the roof of the net from the top of the left circle. Just over 2:10 later, Matthew Moore passed the puck up the benches side of the ice to James Lehrman, who fed it ahead to a streaking Graham, who carried it down the left wing of the Camp zone, got to the front of the net, and shot it in over the glove of Bison goalie Carter Gilleece, and it was 3-2 Big Red after two. Just over five minutes into the third, Dom DeMaria brought the puck down the right wing side of the MBA zone, taking a shot that missed the net to Bland’s left, only to come right back to DeMaria at the bottom of the right circle, and he one-timed it in to tie the game. Nearly four minutes later, Andrew Grooms brought the puck into the MBA zone down the left wing side right up against the boards, and took a backhanded shot from above the left-wing corner that Bland stopped, but he couldn’t control the rebound, allowing Freeman to crash the net, and knock it in to give the Bison the lead. Just over 1:40 later, Mazzoni took a shot from the Bison left point that hit the roof of the net, and so, regulation ended with the game tied 4-4. In the overtime, the Bison dominated puck possession, forcing many saves from Bland, but with just under two minutes left in the extra period, Mazzoni brought the puck into the Camp zone, and roofed it from the top of the left circle, a mirror image of his first goal, to complete his hat trick, and keep the Big Red in the big show.
Just two simply spectacular games; easily one of the greatest nights of playoff action in GNASH history. Page and MBA will now play each other in the Losers’ Bracket Semifinal on Monday @ 8:15 PM @ Centennial B.

Requiem for the Eliminated
Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson
Departing Seniors: Matthew Almeida, Caleb Carlance, Landon Croft, Christian Dickens, Gideon Drobnick, Merrick Mott, Griffen Rumbaugh, Caden Sisco, and Alex Williams
The additions of Almeida and Carlance made this team even better, adding even more depth to a team that already had it. The Commandos lost three of their first six games as Seth Lake continued to try and get the players to buy into his system. Turn any one of those three losses into a win, and Hendersonville would’ve won the GNASH Cup. It was the Ensworth game on November 17, where the Commandos made up an early second period deficit of 6-1 to get a 6-6 tie, that they showed that they were a force to be reckoned with. They finished the regular season on a nine-game unbeaten run, and I really thought that they were the team to beat in this Preds Cup, but that opening-round loss to Franklin set them back; knocking out Ravenwood sent out a warning shot that they could be the first to go all the way through the Losers’ Bracket and win the whole thing, but it wasn’t meant to be. They’re losing a very big group of talent to graduation, but Lake is a heck of a recruiter (as evidenced by his ability to bring in Almeida and Carlance), and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was able to fill some of those gaps next season.
Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian
Departing Seniors: Patrick Atmore, Mikey Baranyay, Peyton Brogdon, Merritt Freeman, McClain Gregory, Marshall McMurtry, Toby Mehaffy, and Britton Watson
The Bison went from being the season’s best story, with their perfect 7-0-0 start to the regular season, to very nearly its most tragic, as a run of six losses in seven games, along with a five-game losing streak, threatened to drop them all the way into the Hine Cup. But Miller Campbell finally got back in the crease after a year away because of an ACL tear, and his presence boosted the offense, as they blitzed Franklin in their regular season finale to grab the last Preds Cup berth, then showed it wasn’t a fluke by beating 1 seed Ravenwood in the first round. Despite the Admirals getting their revenge, the Bison turned around, and pushed MBA to the brink (I really thought they’d won the game when Freeman put them up 4-3), sadly falling short. Baranyay, Freeman, Gregory, McMurtry (who missed half the regular season, then was only on the playoff roster for the Ravenwood game, but I can’t recall ever seeing him take the ice), and Mehaffy are big losses, but they bring back both Carter Gilleece and Miller Campbell, so, they’re set on goalies (but Gilleece will be a senior next season, meaning if Nashville Christian stick around, Isaac Wenck would probably take his place in the 2027-28 season), and they’re bringing back Gavin Cole, Bryant Waddell, Tommy Siciliano, Doms Reetz and DeMaria, and Andrew Grooms, as well, just to name a few. Will they challenge the status quo again like they did this season? Probably not, but don’t expect them to tumble all the way back down, either.
Tennessee Outlaws
Departing Seniors: Jackson Collins, Bob Cobb, Mattie Cox*, Iskandar Islamov, Clive Keeler, Emerson Kennard, Josh Kuehn, Thomas Redden, Dawson Reynolds, and Mark White
*-Cox spent the entire season as the only permanent goalie in the goalie pool, playing in one game, Ensworth’s season opener against Mt. Juliet, in place of Reuben Allen.
With the departures of Dalton Alejandro, AJ Molloy, and Elijah Freeman, it was always going to be hard for the Outlaws to repeat what they did last season (get into the Preds Cup, and knock out 5 seed JPII as the 8 seed), but such is the life of a high school sports team. Kuehn, Keeler, White, and Reynolds are big losses, but Noah Kuehn stood out as the most promising freshman, and Malakai Hogan, James Daniel, Logan Wood, and Cam Miles should be among the big names coming back next season. With three of their goalies graduating, one wonders if Clive Neal might find himself a spot on the roster next season, after spending this season on-loan to Indy. The Outlaws are never short on goalies, so, competition to be in the crease for them might be tense. I wouldn’t be surprised if they fall a little further down the order next season, but they’re a supplemental team, so, don’t be surprised if they can get a couple of skilled guns.
