MTSN GNASH Newsletter for February 20, 2025
Unsurprisingly, none of last night’s scheduled games were played due to the weather; Ford-Antioch never opened at all yesterday after initially planning to open at 11 AM, and Centennial was only open from 10 AM to 6 PM. All of last night’s games will now be played tomorrow, February 21; the new schedule is below. I attempted to send out an update newsletter last night, but beehiiv will only let me send out one letter every 12 hours.
Now, onto business as usual.
Tonight’s broadcast
Father Ryan vs. Station Camp-Liberty Creek - 8:25 PM pregame, 8:30 PM faceoff BROADCAST LINK
Previewing tonight’s game
Henry Hine Cup Winners’ Bracket Final
#3 Father Ryan vs. #1 Station Camp-Liberty Creek - 8:30 PM @ Antioch-North
How they got here
Father Ryan:
-Defeated Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian 5-2 on February 5 in the first round
-Defeated Rutherford Rampage 6-2 on February 12 in a Winners’ Bracket Semifinal
Station Camp:
-Defeated Montgomery County Rangers 8-1 on February 3 in the first round
-Defeated Centennial-FRA 4-3 on February 10 in a Winners’ Bracket Semifinal
Regular season meeting: Station Camp won 5-2 on December 4
So, the Bison passed their first big test of the postseason a week ago Monday, conquering Drew Stratton and Centennial. Now, they face another one in an awakened(?) Zach Fonnesbeck and Father Ryan. Fonnesbeck finally showed the brilliance he showed to us all last season in the Irish’s dominant win against the Rampage a week ago yesterday (although, the Rampage did kind of slouch in the second and got too far behind to make a dent in the third). While Fonnesbeck was dominant in the crease, Colin Sullivan was dominant on the puck, netting a hat trick. Sullivan has five goals across two postseason games, trailing only Brentwood’s Callahan Fielder, who leads all scorers across both tournaments with six goals, five of those coming against the Rangers last week. But the Bison will not lay down when things get tough (the come-from-behind win against the Rampage back in November showed that). They are the 1 seed for a reason, and they’re playing like it. Two of their three usual suspects have scored this postseason (Jadon Robertson and Joey Siciliano), the exception being Toby Mehaffy. If they win this game, I don’t see anyone beating them in the Final next week. I’ll pick them to win tonight, but if Fonnesbeck can stop them, look out for the Irish when it comes to the Final, too.
Pick: Station Camp
Consequences of this game’s result: Winner will claim the first berth in next Thursday’s Henry Hine Cup Final, while the loser will play either Indy, Brentwood, Centennial, or the Rampage in next Wednesday’s Henry Hine Cup Final
