Previewing tonight’s games

Henry Hine Cup Losers’ Bracket Semifinal
#5 Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Lebanon vs. #4 JPII-MLK-GCS - 7:10 PM
How they got here
Mt. Juliet:
-lost 6-5 to JPII on February 9 in the first round
-defeated Rutherford 8-4 on February 10 in the Losers’ Bracket first round
-defeated the Outlaws 5-4 last Wednesday in the Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinals
JPII:
-defeated Mt. Juliet 6-5 on February 9 in the first round
-lost 6-3 to Father Ryan on February 12 in the Winners’ Bracket Semifinals
-defeated Brentwood 2-1 on Monday in the Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinals
Previous meetings:
-JPII won the regular season meeting 3-2 on December 10
-JPII won the Hine Cup opening round game between the two 6-5 on February 9
Fresh off of picking up his first GNASH win against Brentwood on Monday, Ethan Hickerson will start tonight’s game as well, and against Father Ryan tomorrow night, should the Knights win tonight. Collier Owen is still out with the ankle injury he suffered in the opening round game between these two on February 9. When these two teams met a couple of weeks ago, JPII had a 3-1 lead after the first, only to see it whittled down to 5-4 after two, with Reese Davidson scoring what turned out to be the game-winning goal just before the halfway point of the third. When it comes to Mt. Juliet, of course, Jordan Antar and Cade Ellenburg must have eyes on them at all times, as they are capable of scoring multiple goals against this type of opposition, and they have, as they each had two goals in the February 9 game. If those two get going early, it might be lights out for JPII. I have a feeling the third time is going to be the charm for the Bears here.

Game prediction: Mt. Juliet

Consequences of this game’s result: The winner will play Father Ryan in the Losers’ Bracket Final tomorrow night @ 7:30 PM @ Antioch-North, while the loser is eliminated

Predators Cup Losers’ Bracket Final
#5 Franklin vs. #2 Montgomery Bell - 8:45 PM
How they got here
Franklin:
-defeated Hendersonville 5-4 on February 3 in the first round
-defeated Station Camp 6-0 on February 11 in the Winners’ Bracket Semifinals
-lost 2-1 to Nolensville on Monday in the Winners’ Bracket Final
Montgomery Bell:
-lost 2-1 to Nolensville on February 4 in the first round
-defeated Ensworth 4-3 in overtime on February 9 in the Losers’ Bracket first round
-defeated Station Camp 5-4 in overtime last Wednesday in the Losers’ Bracket Quarterfinals
-defeated Page-Summit 4-1 on Monday in the Losers’ Bracket Semifinal
Regular season meeting: 2-2 tie on October 27
Franklin were frustrated by Nolensville’s defense on Monday, with a lot of their shots coming from the outside; they scored on one of their very few chances where they got in on Bingston Soundara, but by that point, it was too late. Meanwhile, MBA resisted early Page pressure, and defeated the Spartriots in the third period. My favorite stat from that game? Only one goal was scored by either Trace Graham or Matthew Moore, with Moore scoring the game-winner just 37 seconds into the third (Graham hit a post); the other three were scored by James Lehrman, who had two of them, and Abe Lasher. This is what I keep harping on when it comes to MBA in big games: they make Graham and Moore do almost all the scoring in games against top teams. Here, 75% of the scoring was done by neither of those two. MBA need to keep that up for the rest of this tournament run, especially if they get into the Final against Nolensville. When these two teams met back in October, Big Red goalie Tripp Bland made quite a few breakaway saves on the Admirals across the first two periods, allowing MBA to have a late lead, until Hank Hayes scored the game-tying goal with the Franklin net empty and the Admirals on the power play with just over a minute left. I don’t think it will be as close this time.

Game prediction: MBA

Consequences of this game’s result: The winner will play Nolensville in the Predators Cup Final on Monday @ 8:15 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp, while the loser is eliminated

The 2026 GNASH postseason is halfway through, and we are taking 50% off of our playoff-only memberships! As usual, they will be the newsletter shoutout, or the Package of Perks! However, instead of scrolling down to “Become a member”, make your payment at the top of our Buymeacoffee page where it says, “Support Middle Tennessee Sports Network” (screenshot below). The cost is now $3.75 for a newsletter shoutout, and $7.50 for a Package of Perks. There will be no monthly payment for these packages; they are one-time only memberships (I can’t disable monthly payments; that’s why I’m having you do it differently). If you have already paid for a membership, you do not need to do anything, as your membership is good for the whole season. For those who purchase these packages, newsletter shoutouts will not start until after the regular season. As always, if you purchase the Package of Perks, please let me know what team you support, so I can shout you out on-air, and now what games to send you as downloadable MP3s.
