Recapping last night’s games

The games that were broadcast by MTSN
Ensworth-Lipscomb-CPA 5 (9-5-1), JPII-MLK-GCS 1 (4-9-2)
Hudson Honeybone opened the scoring with 91 seconds left in the first, when he took the puck from the left wing side of his own zone to the bottom of the right circle of the JPII zone, and fired it into the back of the net for a Senior Night Goal™, and the Ice Tigers led 1-0 after one. Nearly 2:30 into the second, Ensworth found themselves on a short power play after the expiration of a 4-on-4; Jax Dooner carried the puck into the JPII zone, and shot it over the right should of Knights goalie Collier Owen into the top corner of the right-hand side of the JPII net, giving Dooner his own Senior Night Goal™, and converting said short PP with just ten second left on it. Exactly a minute later, JPII got their only goal when Joe Hiller found Jagger Dwyer hanging out at the right-hand side of the Ensworth net; Hiller passed Dwyer the puck, and he knocked it in past Ensworth netminder Reuben Allen. Nearly 3:40 later, Cam Fowler took a shot from the left faceoff dot of the JPII zone that was blocked, and the rebound went straight to Lucas Tarquine at the bottom of the left circle, and he roofed the puck from there. With 87 seconds left in the second, Tashka Owns Different Horses took a shot from the right faceoff dot that Owen saved with his blocker, but he drifted too far to his left, and the rebound landed in the crease, allowing Sam Melnikov to tap it home, and Ensworth led 4-1 after two. With just over 4:30 to go, and Ensworth on another power play, Will Copeland scored the game’s final goal, when he deflected a Honeybone shot from the blue line over Owen’s left shoulder from right in front of the net. The result of the game means that Ensworth clinch what was at the time the second-to-last Preds Cup berth, and they will be the 6 seed, giving Nolensville the 7. It also meant that JPII would be the 4 seed for the Henry Hine Cup, and the Tennessee Outlaws would be the 3.

Next game for both teams
Ensworth-Lipscomb-CPA: Wednesday vs. 3 seed Page-Summit in a Predators Cup first round game @ 8:30 PM @ Centennial B
JPII-MLK-GCS: Next Monday vs. 5 seed Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Lebanon in a Henry Hine Cup first round game @ 8:15 PM @ Centennial B

Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian 6 (9-6-0), Franklin 3 (9-4-2)
Just 2:31 into the game, Tommy Siciliano got off a backhanded shot that Franklin goalie Grayson Butters saved; the rebound went back up the slot, and Patrick Atmore fired it into the back of the net for a Senior Night Goal™. Just over 3:30 later, McClain Gregory carried the puck into the Franklin zone, and allowed David Unger to go across the front of the net, screening Butters, and letting Gregory fire the puck into the top right-hand corner. Just over 90 seconds later, and Franklin kicking off a power play, Toby Mehaffy forced the puck off of Josh Yurjevich at the Admirals’ blue line, then carried it down the ice, and fired it into the back of the net from the left circle, scoring a shorthanded goal and his own Senior Night Goal™. Nearly three minutes later, Franklin won a faceoff in their own zone to Butters’s right; the puck was sent around the boards to the right wing side, where it caromed off of a Franklin stick, and went to the high slot right to Gregory, who roofed it for his second goal of the game. With 74 seconds left in the first, Dom DeMaria found Andrew Grooms all alone in the middle of the ice, streaking towards the Franklin blue line; he passed Grooms the puck, and Grooms went down the slot to the Admirals net and fired it in, and Station Camp led 5-0 after the first in what may be the most stunning period of the season thus far. Nearly five minutes into the second, Franklin were winding down the first half of a double-minor power play, when Michael Mannion attempted a wraparound that was saved by Bison goalie Miller Campbell, but the rebound went out to the left circle, where Hank Hayes one-timed it home to get Franklin on the board, and convert the first half of that double-minor power play with just ten seconds left on it. Nearly five minutes later, Ryan Mannion streaked to the front of the Station Camp net, and shot it in past Campbell. The younger Mannion might’ve been awarded a penalty shot had he missed, because Merritt Freeman threw his stick at Mannion in a desperate, unsuccessful attempt to stop him. With 51 seconds left in the second, and the Admirals on another power play, Yurjevich sent the puck to the front of the Bison net from the right wing corner; Bryant Waddell was standing in front, and it went off of his stick into the air. Campbell fell down, and Waddell tried to clear the puck away, but knocked it into his own net, and now, the Bison only led 5-3 after two, but Gregory added an empty-netter from his own blue line with just over two minutes left to seal the win and complete his Senior Night Hat Trick™. The Bison emphatically snap a five-game losing streak and grab the last Predators Cup berth, pushing Father Ryan into the last Hine Cup spot. They nearly ended up totally recreating the Greek tragedy of Icarus: Flying too close to the sun on wings made of feathers and beeswax (the perfect 7-0-0 start), then the sun melting the wings, causing them to fall from the sky (the seven-game stretch where they lost six and five in a row), but then, instead of crashing into the sea, they got a gust of wind that kept them afloat. It’s unbelievable, but this has been a crazy season. Miller Campbell was terrific in goal, and it clearly boosted the offense, which had been missing for Station Camp for a while now. With his return, are they now a completely dangerous team? We’ll see going forward. As for Franklin, a bad end to the regular season, especially when they now have to turn around and play tonight against a Hendersonville team that’s unbeaten in their last nine.

Next game for both teams
Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian: Tomorrow vs. 1 seed Ravenwood in a Predators Cup first round game @ 7:10 PM @ Centennial A
Franklin: Tonight vs. 4 seed Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson in a Predators Cup first round game @ 8:30 PM @ Antioch-North

The night’s other games
Brentwood-BA-USN 5 (3-10-2), Rutherford Rampage 4 (1-13-1)
Joey Fried and Jack Riley each scored twice for the Bruins, with Charles Sloane scoring their other goal, while Cooper Feasel scored twice for the Rampage, and their other goals came from Graham Sourek and Logan Wolfe. The result of the game means that Brentwood will be the Hine Cup 6 seed, and Clarksville will be the 7. The Bruins finish the regular season strong, winning three of their last four, while the Rampage have now lost 11 straight.

Next game for both teams

Montgomery Bell 9 (10-3-2), Independence-Centennial 2 (5-8-2)
Duke D’Alba had a hat trick for the Big Red, and Andrew Frech scored twice, with MBA’s other four goals coming from Ethan Moore, Matthew Moore, Hunter Musser, and Trace Graham, while Aiden Gardner and Nick Claas scored for the Eagles.

Next game for both teams
Montgomery Bell: Tomorrow vs. 7 seed Nolensville in a Predators Cup first round game @ 8:45 PM @ Centennial A
Independence-Centennial: Next Monday vs. 7 seed Clarksville Kings in a Henry Hine Cup first round game @ 6:30 PM @ Centennial B

Page-Summit 8 (10-3-2), Tennessee Outlaws 0 (4-9-2)
Brayden Owen and Madden Chandler scored twice for the Spartriots, with their other goals coming from Aiden Meyer, Liam Garner, Hunter Haley, and Jonah Ferguson. In the second period, Outlaws defenseman Bob Cobb was given a match penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, which means that he said something really bad to somebody else. He’s a senior, and the inevitable suspension could be career-ending if it’s long enough.

Meanwhile, the wins for MBA and Page and the loss for Franklin means that Preds Cup seeds 2 through 4 are decided on goal difference. MBA’s final goal difference, adjusted after the six-goal margin rule, is +40, putting them first, ahead of Page (+29), then Hendersonville (+24).

Next game for both teams
Page-Summit: Tomorrow vs. 6 seed Ensworth-Lipscomb-CPA in a Predators Cup first round game @ 8:30 PM @ Centennial B
Tennessee Outlaws: Next Monday vs. 6 seed Brentwood-BA-USN in a Henry Hine Cup first round game @ 6:30 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp

Final standings

Previewing tonight’s game

Predators Cup first round
#5 Franklin vs. #4 Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson - 8:30 PM @ Antioch-North
Final regular season records
-Franklin: 9-4-2, finished 5th
-Hendersonville: 10-3-2, finished 4th due to having a lower goal difference than MBA and Page
Regular season meeting: Hendersonville won 2-0 on October 13
These two teams met on the first week of the postseason last year in an elimination game, with Franklin prevailing. When they met back in October, Commandos head coach Seth Lake was still trying to get his team to buy into his system. They’ve certainly bought into it, as they’re on a nine-game unbeaten streak. Hendersonville might be one of the favorites, and you could even say they might be THE favorite. They have become a very dangerous team these last few months, but losing tonight could make it all unravel quickly. The Admirals have to shake off last night’s defeat to Station Camp, where they were absolutely dominated in the first period. It was by far the worst game they played all season, and you don’t want that when you have a playoff game the very next night. Aidan Murphy will be serving the fourth of his five-game suspension for his actions at the end of the Ravenwood game last month.

Game prediction: Hendersonville

Consequences of this game’s result: The winner will play the Station Camp/Ravenwood winner in a Predators Cup Winners’ Bracket Semifinal on February 11 @ 7:10 PM @ Centennial A, while the loser will play the Station Camp/Ravenwood loser in an elimination next Monday @ 7:40 PM @ Centennial A
