Last night’s broadcast
Recapping last night’s game
Predators Cup Losers’ Bracket first round
Franklin 3, Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson 2
Just over five minutes into the first period, Ty Ellis scored the Commandos’ first goal of the postseason, when he buried the rebound from a saved Landon Croft shot. With 96 seconds left in the period, Hank Hayes put the Admirals on the board, when he crossed the front of the Hendersonville net, and backhanded the puck underneath Commandos goalie Justin Smith, and it was 1-1 after one. With just under four minutes left in the second, Franklin took their first lead of the game on the power play, when Ryan Mannion took a shot from the right circle that appeared to glance off Smith’s right arm and go in. Just 27 seconds later, Hendersonville tied the game back up: Colin Smith took a shot from the blue line that was stopped by Admirals goalie Grayson Butters; Croft was standing at the right-hand side of the net, and he passed the rebound over to Gideon Drobnick, who was standing at the left-hand side, and put it in the net, and it was 2-2 after two. Mannion scored the game-winning goal nearly three minutes into the third (again on the power play), when he took a shot from the right edge of the slot that went in through Smith’s five-hole, and Franklin held on from there.

Requiem for the Eliminated
Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson
Departing Seniors: Dom Harpole, Carter Morrison, Colin Smith, and Kaden Smith
It was nice seeing the Hendersonville program back in the Predators Cup after their last appearance in 2020. They had a great start to the season, winning six of their first eight (one of those wins being against Summit), and even sat atop the standings for a little bit on merit, thanks to a five-game winning streak that was also a six-game unbeaten streak (because it began with a tie with Brentwood in a game that Hendersonville should’ve won). The streak was snapped by Ensworth, but they got right back on the horse, winning three in a row against Father Ryan, the Rangers, and MBA (with Hunter Wieck in goal!). But after the win against MBA, they didn’t win for the rest of the season, losing to Ravenwood, then JPII, then the tie with the Rampage that cost them a Top 4 seed, then these playoff losses to Ravenwood and Franklin. Head coach Stephen Sullivan kept wondering when the good fortune would stop, and unfortunately, it came around at the end of the season. Harpole, Morrison, and Colin Smith are big losses, but the Commandos are bringing back a lot of talent next year, such as Gideon Drobnick and Merrick Mott. I think we’ll see them near the top again.
