Last night’s broadcasts
Recapping last night’s games
The games that were broadcast by MTSN
Nolensville 2 (7-4-3), Ensworth-Lipscomb-CPA 1 (8-5-1)
Henry Cravens opened the scoring just over five minutes in, when he took the puck from behind his own net, raced through center on the right-wing side, went to the front of the Ensworth net, and roofed it. 62 seconds later, Charlie Bohnert roofed the puck from high slot, and the 2-0 score carried all the way until just under three minutes left in the game, when Sam Melnikov took a shot from the right point of the Nolensville zone that hit the back of the net. The result of the game means that, thanks to the wins of Franklin and Hendersonville, the Ice Tigers are out of GNASH Cup contention. It also means that Page have to beat Clarksville tomorrow night to clinch a Preds Cup berth. But it also puts all the pressure on Station Camp and Father Ryan to stay in the Top 8 now.
Next game for both teams (regular season finale for both)
Nolensville: January 21 vs. JPII-MLK-GCS @ 7:10 PM @ Centennial A
Ensworth-Lipscomb-CPA: January 26 vs. JPII-MLK-GCS @ 4:45 PM @ Centennial A (this will be their Senior Night game)
Montgomery Bell 6 (8-3-2), Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian 3 (8-5-0)
The Bison won the opening faceoff, and got it into the Big Red zone; Henry Berk misplayed the puck in the right wing corner, allowing McClain Gregory to take an odd-angle shot that went off of Tripp Bland’s left leg pad, and the rebound came out to the right point, where Bryant Waddell shot it into the back of the net. Just over five minutes later, with MBA on the power play, Matthew Moore carried the puck into the Bison zone; while going down the slot, he pushed the puck through the skates of the backchecking Gavin Cole, caught up to it at the front of the net, and fired it in past Camp goalie Carter Gilleece. Just over five minutes later, James Lehrman brought the puck into the Station Camp zone, and fired it into the back of the net past Gilleece’s short side at his left-hand post. 74 seconds later, Mikey Baranyay had the puck behind the MBA net, and found Gregory in front; Bland was caught by surprise, as Gregory backhanded the puck into the bottom right-hand corner of the net. The Bison then won the subsequent faceoff, and Toby Mehaffy brought the puck into the zone, and took a shot that leaked through Bland’s five-hole and just over the goal line, giving the Bison the lead back 11 seconds after tying the game, and they led 3-2 after one. Just 89 seconds into the second, Matthew Moore sent a line drive pass up the bleachers side of the ice to center, where Andrew Frech caught up to it, carried it to the front of the Camp net, and passed it across to Duke D’Alba, who one-timed it into the back of the net, and it was 3-3 after two. The Big Red took over the game in the third. Nearly six minutes into the final period, Moore found himself going 1-on-1 with Cole again, maneuvering around him in the slot, getting to the front of the net, and backhanding it in to an open net, Gilleece having gone down on a desperate (and unsuccessful) poke check attempt. 25 seconds later, Ethan Sides had the puck at the end boards, and saw Frech all alone in front, sending him a centering pass that Frech knocked home. D’Alba added an empty-netter with :23 seconds left to finish the scoring. The Bison have now lost four in a row, and five of their last six. Thanks to Ravenwood’s win over Brentwood, this loss knocked them out of GNASH Cup contention, an unthinkable consequence, considering they were at the top of GNASH heading into the last week of play before the holiday break. Now, they need to worry about possibly not getting into the Predators Cup. The road gets bumpier from here for them, sadly.
Next game for both teams
Montgomery Bell: January 21 vs. Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Lebanon @ 8:40 PM @ Centennial A
Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian: January 21 vs. Ravenwood @ 8:30 PM @ Centennial B
The night’s other games
Franklin 8 (9-3-2), JPII-MLK-GCS 1 (4-7-2)
Ryan Mannion scored four goals for the Admirals, and Will McCormick had two goals, with their others coming from Braden Coleman and Lucas Ortega (his first GNASH goal, I believe), while Joe Hiller had the lone tally for the Knights. The Admirals clinch a Predators Cup berth, and the loss for JPII means that the ninth place finisher will be the Hine Cup 1 seed, as JPII can no longer match or surpass the point total of the current ninth place team (Father Ryan). Hank Hayes was suspended for last night’s game for getting into a fight with Aiden Gardner in the Admirals’ win over Indy last Friday.
Next game for both teams
Franklin: January 26 vs. Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian @ 8:15 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp (this will be their finale game of the regular season)
JPII-MLK-GCS: January 21 vs. Nolensville @ 7:10 PM @ Centennial A
Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson 7 (9-3-2), Rutherford Rampage 5 (1-12-1)
Braden Rose and Caden Sisco each scored twice for the Commandos, with their other goals coming from Caleb Carlance, Matthew Almeida, and Landon Croft, while Graham Sourek and Harold Segars IV each scored twice for the Rampage, with their other goal coming from Myles Thompson. The Commandos clinch a Preds Cup berth, while the Rampage take the 8 seed for the Hine Cup.
Next game for both teams (regular season finale for both)
Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson: January 23 vs. Father Ryan @ 6:45 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp (this will be their Senior Night game)
Rutherford Rampage: January 26 vs. Brentwood-BA-USN @ 6:30 PM @ Centennial A
Ravenwood 5 (10-3-1), Brentwood-BA-USN 1 (2-10-2)
Jake Farrell had a Senior Night Hat Trick™ for the Raptors, with their other goals coming from Keaton Moffitt and Grady Fernan, while Beckett Mickle had the Bruins’ only goal. The Raptors can now win the GNASH Cup on January 21 by beating Station Camp, while Brentwood will now be either the 6 or 7 seed for the Hine Cup.
Next game for both teams (regular season finale for both)
Ravenwood: January 21 vs. Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian @ 8:30 PM @ Centennial B
Brentwood-BA-USN: January 26 vs. Rutherford Rampage @ 6:30 PM @ Centennial A
Independence-Centennial 4 (5-7-2), Tennessee Outlaws 3 (4-8-2)
Nick Claas scored two Senior Night Goals™ for the Eagles, with their other goals coming from Owen Brought and Nick Onusaitis (his own Senior Night Goal™), while Clive Keeler and the Kuehn Bros.™ scored for the Outlaws. This one got nasty in the third, as 16 penalties were called, seven of them alone against Brought, including three separate majors (fighting, holding, and head contact), so, he’s about to serve a long suspension, and, since Indy breached the 12-penalty minimum, Mark Layne will be suspended for the second time this season, but he’s now going to serve an additional game for breaching the three major/match penalty limit, unless one of Brought’s majors gets downgraded. As mentioned above, Aiden Gardner was suspended for last night’s game for fighting with Hank Hayes last Friday. The Eagles had a 3-0 lead after two, and went up 4-0 early in the third before the Outlaws cut it down to one, but held on.
