MTSN GNASH Newsletter for November 13, 2024

Scenarios for tonight

Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian AND Rutherford Rampage will be eliminated from contention for the GNASH Cup regular season championship if Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb DEFEAT Indy.

Brentwood will be eliminated from contention for the GNASH Cup regular season championship if they LOSE to JPII-MLK, AND Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb DEFEAT Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian.

Previewing tonight’s games

MTSN is not broadcasting any of tonight’s games. All games are being played @ Centennial.

Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian (1-5-1) vs. Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb (8-0-0) - 7:10 PM on Rink A
This is the Eagles’ first game since beating Father Ryan on October 28. Meanwhile, for the Ice Tigers, this is the first of four games across an eight-day span (they play the Outlaws on Friday, provided that one doesn’t get rescheduled; MBA next Monday, and JPII next Wednesday). All of these games are potential land mines for Ensworth, especially the game against the Outlaws on Friday, since they’ll like be missing some players due to travel (again, provided it doesn’t get rescheduled). I think this one will be less of a land mine, because the only way Ensworth don’t win is if they don’t push the entire game.

Pick: Ensworth

Brentwood (3-5-1) vs. JPII-MLK (5-2-0) - 8:30 PM on Rink B
If it weren’t for Andrew Sallee’s terrific goaltending, the Bruins might well be last in the league. Even with three wins, they still only have six skaters with at least a point to their name, and three of their seniors (Jack Schultz, Callahan Fielder, and Zane Cesarone) have scored nearly all of their goals (Will Hubbard, a junior, is the only other goalscorer for them). Sallee has been giving them a chance (in games where they weren’t completely overwhelmed by their opposition), and he’s been rewarded by them scoring on their rare opportunities. Once again tonight, they face a team better than them, but, like the Summit game, has goaltending that can tend to be a bit shaky. I know Sallee will be in goal for the Bruins again, so I expect the Knights to go with Jacob Benoit to match. These two have not met since October of last year, when JPII beat Brentwood 4-0, thanks to an outstanding performance in goal from Anthony Pellegrino that propelled the Knights’ offense to take over the game, and, for me, is the catalyst in Brentwood’s eventual midseason relegation.

Pick: JPII

Montgomery County Rangers (0-8-0) vs. Summit-Page (5-2-0) - 8:45 PM on Rink A
If the Rangers lose this game (as I expect them to), then lose their game against Centennial-FRA next Monday, combined with an Outlaws win over Brentwood, then, according to my research, they will clinch the first Hine Cup berth.

Pick: Summit
