Last night’s broadcast
Recapping last night’s game
Franklin 6 (8-2-0), Father Ryan 1 (2-6-1)
Kasper Thuresson scored the game’s first goal with 80 seconds left in the first on a power play, when he fired the puck into the roof of the Irish net from the top of the right circle. Just 16 seconds later, with the Admirals on another power play, Brodie Marchy took a shot from the blue line; slightly screened, Ryan goalie Jack Karpynec began to move to his left, only for the shot to hit his stick, then glance off the post to his right, and land in the crease, allowing Cole Wright, standing right there, to knock the puck in for his first GNASH goal. Franklin held on to the 2-0 lead all the way until 3:31 left in the second, when Danny Libby had problems keeping the puck inside the Admirals zone, allowing Mykyta Popov to grab the loose puck, and race to the Father Ryan net, moving to the left-hand side, and backhanding it in. 1:58 later, Gage Hart got Father Ryan on the board, when he ripped the puck into the roof of the Franklin net from the high slot. Just 42 seconds later, the Admirals went back up by three, when Ryan Mannion banged in a rebound from a stopped Hank Hayes shot. It was 4-1 Franklin after two. Mannion scored his second goal with just under 8:30 left in the third, when he shot the puck into the back of the net from the left circle. 2:02 later, Hayes scored the game’s final goal, when Will McCormick spotted him going down the slot on a 2-on-1, passed it over, and Hayes deked Karpynec out of position, allowing him to backhand it home. The Irish did have a short bench due travel, with only eight skaters on there at a time (although, Hart did sit for a 2-and-10 from the end of the first through much of the second, so, they only had seven for a bit), but they did give Franklin a game until running out of gas as it went on. So, now the Irish can no longer win the GNASH Cup regular season championship, and it sets up the big scenario for tonight (see below).
Next game for both teams
Franklin: Monday vs. Ravenwood @ 7:40 PM @ Centennial B
Father Ryan: December 4 vs. Station Camp-Liberty Creek @ 7:10 PM @ Centennial A
Standings
Scenario for tonight
A WIN for Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb over the Tennessee Outlaws would eliminate Centennial-FRA from contention for the GNASH Cup regular season championship; this would mean that eight teams would now be eliminated from that particular race, meaning that Ensworth would clinch the first Predators Cup berth.
Previewing tonight’s game
Tennessee Outlaws (4-3-1) vs. Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb (9-0-0) - 5:40 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
Well, I guess both teams won’t have any issues with having to scratch players due to travel; otherwise, this game would have been rescheduled, like the Station Camp/Indy game that was supposed to take place tonight, too. I could see the Ice Tigers losing this game; Dawson Reynolds is a hard goalie to beat, and the Outlaws have enough depth to steal games. Ensworth have won some blowouts this season, but they’ve also had to grind out a lot of games, too. They only beat Station Camp 2-1 last month, and have also beaten Father Ryan 2-0, and Franklin and Hendersonville by the exact same score of 3-0. They are “scoring by committee,” as Tim McAlister told me they would be after the Centennial game two months ago. If Dalton Alejandro and Josh Kuehn are present for the Outlaws, they could make things difficult for whoever is in the crease for Ensworth. This will not be an easy game for the Ice Tigers.
Pick: Ensworth
The game between Station Camp and Independence, originally scheduled for tonight at 5:55 @ Antioch-North, has now been moved to Monday, December 16, at 8:45 PM at the same location.
