Recapping last night’s games

The games that were broadcast by MTSN
Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb 3 (9-0-2), Montgomery Bell 3 (6-2-2)
Henry Cravens scored the opening goal just 54 seconds into the game, when his shot from the right point went off the glove of Hunter Wieck and into the back of the net. 65 seconds later, Ethan Sides tied the game when he shot the puck into the back of the Ensworth net from the right circle. The first period finished 1-1. 2:01 into the second, the Ice Tigers took the lead back on a shorthanded goal by Trex Hooper, after he hammered a Logan Campbell centering pass into the back of the net. Less than two minutes later, MBA tied the game again; Trace Graham finished serving a penalty, and joined the play. He left the puck at Ensworth’s right point for Duke D’Alba, who then sent it to the front of the net to a waiting Graham; a surprised Reuben Allen fell backwards, leaving the right-hand side of the net open, where Graham slid the puck in with a backhand. Just over four minutes later, Ensworth retook the lead for a second time when Lucas Tarquine roofed the puck into the MBA net with a backhand from the right circle. Ensworth held on to the lead until Matthew Moore scored the game-tying goal with just 38 seconds left, firing it into the roof of the net from the left circle. The Big Red had the net empty. Ensworth once again fail to clinch a Predators Cup berth, as Centennial defeated the Rangers later in the night. The Ice Tigers only need one more point to clinch now, though. Wieck made a big save with 1.8 seconds left in the second on a 4-on-0, when the Big Red were caught in a change, and Hudson Honeybone had the opportunity to extend their lead. Likewise, Allen made a breakaway save on Graham in the third.

Montgomery Bell: December 9 vs. Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson @ 8:35 PM @ Centennial A

Tennessee Outlaws 8 (5-3-2), Brentwood 5 (3-7-1)
What a crazy game this turned out to be. Brentwood started Collier Owen in goal, and it only took 12 seconds for Jaxon McKnight to score the game’s first goal, firing the puck into the back of the net from the right circle. 28 seconds later, Josh Kuehn made it 2-0 when he shot the puck into the bottom corner on the left-hand side of the net. Brentwood got one back just over six minutes later, when Jack Schultz stole a dump-in attempt, and carried it down the left wing, right to the Outlaws’ net, and shot it in past Dawson Reynolds’s blocker. Nearly three minutes later, Kuehn scored again when he knocked in a McKnight centering pass that came from behind the net. 77 seconds later, Kuehn completed his hat trick, when he carried the puck to the right-hand side of the Bruins’ net, and roofed it. 56 seconds later, AJ Molloy made it 5-1 Outlaws, when he came out in front from behind the net, and slid it into the bottom corner on the left-hand side. Andrew Sallee was put in goal for the Bruins for the second, and right away, his presence made a difference. He made multiple saves on close-range shots, and nearly five minutes into the second, Zane Cesarone made it 5-2 when Will Hubbard found him at center, he avoided a poke check from Chaffin Baggott, then going right to the front of the net, and shooting it in over Reynolds’s glove hand. 5:10 later, it was 5-3, when a saved Schultz shot turned into a big rebound that Cesarone hammered home. The ride got even bumpier for the Outlaws with 78 seconds left in the second, when Schultz shot the puck into the roof of the net from the bottom of the right circle. Now, all of a sudden, Brentwood were breathing down their necks. Seconds later, Reynolds made a game-saving stop, robbing Schultz with the glove after he took a shot on a cross-ice pass from Hubbard. The Outlaws managed to stay ahead after two. With just over 4:30 to go, Kuehn scored his fourth (and the game-winner), when he came out in front from the endboards, and put the puck into the bottom corner on the right-hand side of the net. Before that, Brody Bohman hit the Outlaws’ crossbar, and Schultz hit the post to Reynolds’s right. Brentwood got one back nearly two minutes later, when Cesarone blocked a Ben Kelly shot attempt off a faceoff, grabbed the puck at center, carried it down the Outlaws’ slot, and beat Reynolds five-hole. 23 seconds later, Dalton Alejandro was called for hooking, putting Brentwood on the power play for the only time in the game. They pulled Sallee, but it immediately backfired. James Daniel banked the puck off the left-wing glass, and it slid down the ice, right into the middle of the empty net. With 21 seconds to go, the Outlaws got another shorthanded empty netter, when Clive Keeler tapped the puck in from in front. With this win, and the Rampage’s loss, the Outlaws are now firmly in control of the race for the final Predators Cup berth. It feels like Brentwood’s hopes are gone now.

Station Camp-Liberty Creek 5 (2-6-2), Rutherford Rampage 4 (4-7-0)
What. A. Finish! The Rampage took the lead just 33 seconds in, when Tucker Wilhelm knocked the rebound of a saved Eddie Maze shot under the right leg of Bison goalie Miller Campbell and in. With 2:50 to go in the first, Maze got his goal, when he carried the puck down the right wing, and shot it in from in tight. 39 seconds later, he scored again, when a bizarre backhanded shot attempt from Wilhelm came his way at the right-hand side of the net, and he knocked it in. The Rampage were up 3-0, and it felt like they weren’t going to lose. 24 seconds into the second, Jadon Robertson got the Bison on the board, when he carried the puck down the Rampage slot on a breakaway, and shot it in. Over nine minutes later, Rutherford went back up by three, when William Haynes sent the puck into the right-hand side of the Station Camp net from the right circle. It was 4-1 after two. Just over four minutes into the third, Robertson scored again, this time roofing the puck from in front. Over 3:30 later, Dom DeMaria made it 4-3, when a broken play led to him scoring from right in front. 40 seconds later, Toby Mehaffy tied the game, when he shot the puck into the top corner on the left-hand side from the right circle. Then, he scored the winner with 19 seconds left, when he got the puck from Joey Siciliano at center, carried it down the right wing, and shot it into the back of the net. What a third period collapse by the Rampage; on the contrast, the Bison finally have a third period comeback that results in a win (the other two were ties). It feels like the Rampage’s hopes to get into the Preds Cup are gone now.

Rutherford Rampage: Tomorrow vs. Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian @ 8:30 PM @ Centennial B

The night’s other games
Ravenwood 9 (7-1-0), Franklin 5 (8-3-0)
Liam Powell and Grady Fernan each scored twice for the Raptors, with their other goals coming from Cooper Hill, Cooper Friedman, Keaton Moffitt, Robert Longard, and Anthony Maltese. Hank Hayes had two goals for the Admirals, with their others coming from Ryan Mannion, Cole Wright, and Wyatt Gerischer. It was 4-4 at one point in the second, but the Raptors do what they always do, and that’s turn on the jets.

Next game for both teams
Ravenwood: December 2 vs. Centennial-FRA @ 7:05 PM @ Centennial A
Franklin: December 2 vs. Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian @ 5:30 PM @ Centennial A

Centennial-FRA 3 (4-5-0), Montgomery County Rangers 1 (0-10-0)
Nick Class, Brendan Mitchell, and Caleb Mills had the Cougars’ goals, while the Rangers’ lone tally came from Jay Morrow. I’m shocked it was this close. Centennial only outshot the Rangers 30-20, and Mills’s goal was an empty netter with only one second left. I thought Centennial would have a pretty potent offense against the Rangers. I guess I was wrong. Either way, this result, combined with the Outlaws’ win over Brentwood, means the Rangers secure a Hine Cup spot, becoming the first team to know which postseason tournament they’ll be playing in.
