MTSN GNASH Newsletter for November 4, 2024

Tonight’s broadcast schedule

Ravenwood vs. JPII-MLK - 5:25 PM pregame, 5:30 PM faceoff BROADCAST LINK

Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb vs. Franklin - 8:25 PM pregame, 8:30 PM faceoff BROADCAST LINK

Scenario for tonight

Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill will be eliminated from contention for the GNASH Cup regular season championship if they LOSE TO Centennial-FRA, AND the Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb vs. Franklin game is WON BY EITHER TEAM. (No, this would NOT mean that they would be going to the Hine Cup; at this time, MJ can still finish in the Top 8, and get into the Predators Cup.)

Previewing tonight’s games

The games that MTSN is broadcasting are in BOLD.

Ravenwood (5-1-0) vs. JPII-MLK (5-1-0) - 5:30 PM @ Centennial A
MBA’s performance on defense (and the usual steadiness of Hunter Wieck in goal) showed that the Raptors aren’t totally unbeatable when they’re at full strength. That’s a good thing for the competitiveness of the league, especially when we still have just over half of the regular season to go. I am a bit concerned about the Knights’ chances in this game. They got pushed around by MBA in the 5-2 loss on October 23, and only beat Mt. Juliet 4-2 last Monday (Kaz Cronrath is THE reason the Bears have had any chance to win a game this season). Going up against the run-and-gun Raptors might not be so fun for them.

Pick: Ravenwood

Centennial-FRA (2-4-0) vs. Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill (0-6-2) - 7:05 PM @ Centennial A
So, the Bears are on the verge of being the first team to be cut out of the race for the GNASH Cup regular season championship. It’s taken us less than two months to get to this point. It feels like another game where Kaz Cronrath will give them a chance, but the better team will prevail (especially if Drew Stratton is in goal). Anthony Giampaolo serves the last of his three-game suspension for an unsportsmanlike conduct match penalty in MJ’s 3-3 tie with Indy on October 14.

Pick: Centennial

Brentwood (2-3-1) vs. Montgomery Bell (4-2-1) - 7:40 PM @ Centennial B
Despite how I liked they way MBA played against Ravenwood last Monday, even in defeat, I wouldn’t be surprised if they lost this game. Why? Well, because the Bruins have already beaten another team in the Big Red’s stratosphere: Summit-Page, just two weeks ago. This could be another game where Andrew Sallee shuts down a decent offense, and the Bruins take advantage of their few chances. The difference on this occasion, however, is MBA will almost certainly start Hunter Wieck in goal to try and avoid the upset. That’s where the needle tips in MBA’s direction for me.

Pick: MBA

Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb (6-0-0) vs. Franklin (6-1-0) - 8:30 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
The winner of this game will take over first place in the league from Hendersonville. Ensworth won the only meeting between these two teams last December; it kicked off a three-game losing streak for the Admirals that eventually derailed their GNASH Cup regular season championship campaign. Both teams were pretty evenly-matched heading into that game, but now, I have to tip the scales towards the Ice Tigers, whose depth is just a fraction better than the Admirals; their goaltending is better, too. I hope this game is as good as the one they played almost 11 months ago.

Pick: Ensworth
