Recapping last night’s games

The games that were broadcast by MTSN
Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian 7 (5-0-0), Nolensville 4 (3-2-1)
Charlie Bonhert opened the scoring just 43 seconds in, when he one-timed a centering pass from Spencer Kern into the bottom corner on the left-hand side of the Bison net. 2:30 later, Logan Campbell made it 2-0, when he took a shot from the left circle that beat Camp goalie Carter Gilleece stick side. Just over three minutes later, the Bison got on the board, when Gavin Cole threw a centering pass from the left-wing boards of the Knights zone, finding McClain Gregory in front, and he redirected it past Isaac Wenck, who played the entire game in goal for an absent Bingston Soundara (more on that in a bit). 70 seconds later, Josh Peffer, facing the boards, backhanded the puck up the slot from the right-wing corner, coming to a wide-open Mikey Baranyay, who one-timed it in to tie the game. Just over 2:30 later, the Bison took the lead for good, when Cole took a shot from the left point that Merritt Freeman deflected into the roof of the net from in front; it was a power play goal, as right when Cole took the shot, a penalty against Camp that had the game in a 4-on-4 situation had expired. It was 3-2 Bison after one. Nearly six minutes into the second, Dom DeMaria weaved through Nolensville defenders in the slot, got to the front of the net, and slid the puck into the bottom left-hand corner. With nine seconds left in the middle frame, and the Knights on the power play, Campbell sent the puck towards the front of the net from the left-wing boards; it went off of someone (I think Bryant Waddell) in front and in for his second goal of the game, and it was 4-3 Bison after two. Nearly 3:30 into the third, Freeman scored his second goal of the game, carrying the puck from his own zone to the bottom of the right circle in the Nolensville end, backhanding it in past Wenck. Just over 90 seconds later, the Knights got back within one, when Heath Hudy scored on a one-timer from the left edge of the Bison slot. Almost six minutes after that, Andrew Grooms put the Bison back up by two, when he scored on a netmouth scramble. Peffer added the final goal with under a second to go, when he fired the puck through the legs of Wenck from the left-wing boards. Soundara and Henry Cravens were in Minnesota today with their AAA team (who travels on a non-holiday Monday in November?). Also, Soundara was pulled from the game against Father Ryan last week, because his right shoulder was dislocated from a collision that occurred on the Irish’s second goal; it was popped back in with no long-term damage. As for Wenck in his first full GNASH game, he made 29 saves on 36 shots, which, all things considered, is probably better than what most of us thought he’d do. The Bison are still perfect. Will they no longer be any time soon?

Page-Summit 5 (3-2-1), Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson 3 (3-3-0)
Matthew Almeida opened the scoring with just under four minutes left in the first, when, with the Commandos on the power play, he took a shot from the left circle that rolled up Justin Iannuccilli’s right shoulder and into the back of the net. 95 seconds later, the Spartriots tied the game, when Tyler Bell took a shot from the left point; Griffen Rumbaugh made the save, but the rebound came to Hudson Halters standing at the left-hand post, and he banged it in. Then, with nine seconds left, Page took the lead, when Aiden Garner took a shot from the center point that Rumbaugh saved with his glove but didn’t catch, having the rebound come right to Conlee Meeks, who shot it under Rumbaugh and in, and Page led 2-1 after one. 3:20 into the second, Hendersonville were on the power play, when Caleb Carlance fired the puck into the back of the net from the left circle. One second shy of seven minutes later, the Commandos went back in front, when Merrick Mott scored his first goal of the season(!) by scoring in a manner similar to Carlance, and the Commandos led 3-2 after two. Nearly halfway through the third, Bell stole the puck from a Commandos player (I think it might’ve been Caleb Priest), and shot it into the back of the net from the bottom of the right circle. With 85 seconds left, and the Spartriots on the power play, Halters scored the winner, when Elijah Selby passed him the puck from behind the net, and he roofed it from in front. With 56 seconds left, Rumbaugh began to make his way to the bench for the extra attacker, when Aiden Meyer ended up with the puck; Rumbaugh turned back towards the net, but Meyer shot it into the empty cage from center. Since Rumbaugh was still on the ice, it counts as a goal against him. In the second, a number of players piled on Iannuccilli in the crease going after the puck; Aiden Garner and Braden Rose got tangled up, and Garner got a five-minute major for holding. Yes. Holding. (The GameSheet initially said it was head-butting.)

The night’s other games
Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Lebanon 3 (1-6-0), Independence-Centennial 2 (2-3-1)
Ethan Smith scored twice for the Bears, with Wynston Hudson scoring their other goal. Owen Brought and Aiden Gardner scored for the Eagles. Clive Neal got the start in goal for Indy; I thought Mark Layne might give him the start, but then I thought that Mark would stick with David Busby because he gave them a better chance of winning. When Mark was coaching Centennial more than a decade ago, he might’ve gone with Busby. Now, I guess he just wanted Neal to get some playing time. Indy are now on a three-game winless streak, and their schedule, with some exceptions, starts to get tougher from here. The Bears are no longer winless, and everyone has now posted at least one point in the standings.

Franklin 2 (3-2-1), Father Ryan 0 (4-2-0)
Ryan Mannion scored both goals in the second period. So, the Admirals snap their three-game winless streak, and break the Irish’s three-game winning streak. Third shutout of the season for the Admirals; their schedule softens up a bit for their next three games.

Montgomery Bell 8 (3-2-1), Brentwood-BA-USN 4 (0-4-1)
Ben Eadie, Abe Lasher, and Ethan Sides all scored twice for the Big Red, with their other goals coming from Duke D’Alba and Matthew Moore. Brody Bohman, Will Hubbard, Charles Sloane, and Dowden Fridrich all scored for the Bruins; for Fridrich, it’s his first GNASH goal. Tripp Bland started the game in goal for MBA, and was removed after two periods with the Big Red leading 6-0, replaced by Parker Eaves, who made his first GNASH appearance. Eaves was then pulled from the game in favor of returning to Bland after giving up three goals to Brentwood in a 42-second span within the first five minutes of the third, allowing them to get within 6-3. Moore and Eadie then scored to put MBA up 8-3 before Fridrich’s goal.

Ensworth-Lipscomb-CPA 7 (2-2-0), Tennessee Outlaws 1 (2-3-1)
Hudson Honeybone had a hat trick for the Ice Tigers, with their other goals coming from Logan Green, Trex Hooper, Sully Henson, and Clayton Forbis. Mark White had the Outlaws’ only goal. Thomas Redden made his second appearance in goal for Tennessee; I thought Chris Deming would’ve gone with Dawson Reynolds to try for the upset, but I guess he thought he didn’t have enough depth for it, so, he gave Redden another start.
