Previewing tonight’s games
Both games are being played @ Centennial A; the Kings do not have a record next to their name because this is their first game of the season.
Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian (1-0-0) vs. Clarksville Kings - 7:10 PM
The Bison had a tough outing against the Rampage last week, trailing 2-1 at one point, then being tied 3-3 and leading 5-4 before going on to win 6-4. They got offensive contributions from Dom DeMaria, Tobyn Mehaffy, McClain Gregory, and Andrew Grooms, plus one of their newest players, Merritt Freeman, also got on the scoresheet. It’s a good start.
Meanwhile, the team known as the Montgomery County Rangers last season finally gets season number two off of the ground. The Rangers had six seniors on last year’s team, but only two on this season’s. The likes of Cameron Wells and Andy Lietz, who were experienced GNASH players, were two of those six seniors from last season. There are some familiar names on the Kings’ roster, such as PJ Burns and Jay Morrow, plus #1 goalie Riley Barnes (who has a backup this season that actually belongs to the team in Jackson Penfield, instead of having to borrow a goalie from the Outlaws, like they did last season). Unfortunately, Connor Bailey, who was probably their best player last season outside of Burns, didn’t return to the team, opting to solely focus on playing for the Red River Spartans. There are a lot of new names on this roster, which, as I’m typing this, has not been fully completed on the GNASH website. There are three players with the last name Hasse: Aidan, Brock, and Camden. Are they triplets? Are they going to help take the Kings to the next level? Winning a game is definitely one of their goals this season. Will it be this one? I don’t think so.
Game prediction: Station Camp
Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson (0-1-0) vs. Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Lebanon (0-2-0) - 8:40 PM
Both of these teams lost a game by the final score of 8-4 last week: Hendersonville to Ravenwood, and Mt. Juliet to Ensworth-Lipscomb-CPA. In both games, they kept it close, only for the winners to run away late. This could be a close game. I’d tip the needle in terms of depth to Hendersonville, but I’d say the goaltending is about even. Both defenses will need to be shored up, and keep the likes of Jordan Antar and Gideon Drobnick at bay. This feels like a must-win for Mt. Juliet, because this is already their third game of the season, and their next game is against Ravenwood, so, if they want to pick up some points towards a high Hine Cup seed (I can’t see this team getting into the Predators Cup), they need to win this one. Anthony Giampaolo is serving the second of his yet-to-be-determined number of games suspension, as the GNASH website has still not announced how many games he’ll get for a match penalty for kicking an opposing player in the Franklin game last week.
Game prediction: Hendersonville
