Recapping last night’s game

Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb 11 (15) (3-0-0), Montgomery County Rangers 1 (0-5-0)
Trex Hooper, Hudson Honeybone, and Spencer Kern each had hat tricks for the Ice Tigers. Jackson Malleus-Mayer scored twice, and the other four goals came from Henry Cravens, Charlie Bohnert, Henry Oeser, and Joseph Simonetti. Connor Bailey had the Rangers’ lone goal. MoCo had only two shots on goal in this game. Now, why is the number 15 in parentheses? GNASH has a rule where, if a team is up by ten, and they score more goals to extend the margin, those goals are not put on the scoreboard, but are still recorded on the box score, and still counted towards the team’s overall goal total on the season. Should the trailing team score more goals, then goals would be added to both teams’ places on the scoreboard simultaneously. For example, if the Rangers had scored a second goal, then the scoreboard would’ve instantly gone from 11-1 to 12-2. GNASH utilized this to replace the old mercy rule (whereupon a game would end once a team took a ten-goal lead) in time for the 2020-21 season. I personally don’t care for the rule. Either end the game once someone goes up by ten, or put all the goals up on the scoreboard. Or, if someone is up by ten after two periods, shorten the third period from 14 minutes to 10.

Next game for both teams

Previewing tonight’s game

Tennessee Outlaws (1-1-0) vs. Father Ryan (0-2-1) - 8:30 PM @ Antioch-North
So, I kind of missed the mark on the Ryan-MBA game last week. I thought MBA wouldn’t have much trouble getting a victory against the Irish. The Big Red had only played one game to that point, a 10-1 whipping of the Rangers (the Rangers have now been whipped in every game but one, a 5-2 loss to Brentwood to open the season). Meanwhile, the Irish were coming off a 4-2 loss to the Rampage where they were outshot 31-14, with Zach Fonnesbeck playing the entire game in net (except for the last minute, when he was pulled for the extra attacker). That’s where my thought process was. The Irish, to their credit, defended very well against the Big Red, and managed to come out of the game with a point in their back pocket. I also overestimated MBA. In their 6-0 win over Indy on Monday, they only outshot the Eagles 26-22, and, watching the live video broadcast from Big Red Broadcasting, Indy were able to get in behind the defense, and have some chances on goal, so, MBA have a lot to clean up. Now, if Father Ryan want to build on that tie, they need to win this game tonight, especially because their next game is against Ensworth on October 21. Another sticking point to the Irish is the fact that they possibly the youngest team in the whole league. They have ten freshmen, and not all of them are going to be breakout stars out of the gate. Gage Hart looks to be the exception; he has scored a goal in each of the Irish’s games so far. He has been their best player through three games. Meanwhile, the Outlaws are finally returning to the ice for the first time since their 2-0 win over Indy on September 23. Like the Irish, if the Outlaws want to sneak into the Predators Cup, or get a high Hine Cup seed, they need to win this game, too. Their top offensive player, Josh Kuehn, has two goals so far. He’ll need to step up tonight. Overall, I think both teams are about even in terms of offensive depth. It’s goaltending, of course, where the Irish stick out. Dawson Reynolds and Justin Iannuccilli are good, but Fonnesbeck is on another level (it should be noted that Fonnesbeck was loaned out to the Irish last season from the Outlaws; now, he is a Father Ryan student). I think goaltending will tip the needle to the Irish tonight.

Pick: Father Ryan

Monday’s final score
