Tonight’s broadcast

Brentwood vs. Centennial-FRA - 8:35 PM pregame, 8:40 PM faceoff BROADCAST LINK

Previewing tonight’s games

The game that MTSN is broadcasting is in BOLD.

Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson (4-1-1) vs. Summit-Page (3-0-0) - 7:10 PM @ Centennial A
The Commandos have had a terrific start to the season, and look very likely to make the Predators Cup, as they still have some quite winnable games down the road. They probably should’ve beaten Brentwood, but their loss to Franklin stands out. Hendersonville are slightly deep, but not very, and their goaltending is not as good as the league average. Tonight, they face a Summit team that has more depth, and better goaltending. I think Summit are better than Franklin, so, I know which way I’m going.

Pick: Summit

Station Camp-Liberty Creek (0-2-1) vs. Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb (3-0-0) - 8:30 PM @ Centennial B
I had high hopes for Station Camp this season, but they look to be just about the same team as they were last season. Granted, they’ve only played three games, but those three games have been teams that are not very far off of their level, and the best result is a 3-3 tie with Mt. Juliet. Now, they have to face one of the top teams in the league (who also happen to be the defending Preds Cup champions), and, it’s going to be a struggle for them.

Pick: Ensworth

Brentwood (1-2-1) vs. Centennial-FRA (1-2-0) - 8:40 PM @ Centennial A
Around this time ten years ago, these two teams had just played in one of the greatest Predators Cup Finals of all time seven months earlier, a 2-1 overtime thriller won by Centennial. The Cougars would fade back into the pack in the 2014-15 season, while the Bruins would pull off the GNASH Cup-Preds Cup double they’d failed to achieve the season before. Flash forward ten years, and Centennial are a season removed from winning the Hine Cup, and Brentwood were shutout in the Hine Cup Final nearly eight months ago. And both teams are watching their other major rival, Ravenwood, probably about to go 19-0 (winning all 15 regular season games, plus the minimum of four needed to win the Preds Cup without losing a game) this season, while trying to stay out of the GNASH basement themselves. Both teams have decent goaltenders, but not much offense on top of that. Centennial’s leading scorer through three games is Nick Claas, with three points from two goals and an assist. Four other players have one point each. In their last game, the 4-1 loss to Hendersonville on September 30, they were outshot 42-10. David Busby played in goal instead of Drew Stratton, but I’m not sure that would’ve made a difference. Meanwhile, Brentwood’s last game was the 3-0 loss to Franklin on October 2, where they were outshot 24-7. Their offense isn’t much better; three seniors have done most of the scoring: Jack Schultz has six points from four goals and two assists (he’s suspended for tonight, by the way, for getting five-and-a-game for fighting at the end of the Franklin contest), while Callahan Fielder and Zane Cesarone each have four points from three goals and an assist (Fielder had a hat trick against Hendersonville). Will Hubbard has two points from a goal and an assist, while Matthew Melamed has a point from an assist. Centennial’s choice of goaltender for tonight might actually make the difference here.

Pick: Brentwood
