Previewing tonight’s games
The game that MTSN is broadcasting is in BOLD.
Independence-BA-USN-Nashville Christian (0-3-0) vs. JPII-MLK (2-0-0) - 7:10 PM @ Centennial A
It’s been a hellish start to the season for the Eagles (though, not as bad as it’s been for either Mt. Juliet or the Rangers); they’ve lost two games by five goals each (6-1 to Hendersonville on September 16, and 7-2 to Summit on Monday), and the one close game they’ve played, they lost (the 2-0 defeat to the Outlaws on September 23). After tonight, they have to play MBA on Monday. They’ve allowed 15 goals, and only scored three. JPII have scored 10, and only allowed two through two games. Now, after missing the mark on my Father Ryan-MBA prediction the other night, I should refrain from absolute declarations of who will win what game. But the big difference between the Irish and Indy is goaltending: Zach Fonnesbeck is a far superior goaltender to either Trent Pavlik or Catcher Greyson. No offense to those two, but it’s the truth. Also, I don’t think that Indy can play defense as well as Ryan did the other night. I feel confident in my pick for this one.
Pick: JPII
Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill (0-3-1) vs. Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson (2-1-1) - 8:30 PM @ Centennial B
It’s been all downhill for the Bears since their season-opening tie with Station Camp-Liberty Creek on September 19. They’ve been clobbered by Summit-Page, Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb, and Ravenwood. On Monday against the Raptors, they only had seven shots on goal. This is clearly a Bears team in rebuild mode. Meanwhile, the Commandos are coming off of a 4-1 win over Centennial-FRA where they outshot the Cougars 42-10. I see no reason why this game should be any different for them. Both teams will have completed one-third of their regular season schedules (five games played out of the 15 they’re scheduled to play) once this game is in the books.
Pick: Hendersonville
Franklin (4-0-0) vs. Brentwood (1-1-1) - 8:40 PM @ Centennial A
This seems like a game where the Admirals could get tripped up. They have more depth than the Bruins, but Brentwood have the better goaltending. Where Franklin’s biggest issue lies is in the penalty box. They were called for five penalties on Monday against Montgomery County, with four of those alone being called in the third period. You don’t want to give players like Jack Schultz and Callahan Fielder numerous chances when you’re shorthanded. They need to reign that in. If they do, they should have no issue winning this game. Franklin will also have completed the first one-third of their regular season schedule once this game is done.
Pick: Franklin
