Tonight’s broadcast
JPII-MLK-GCS vs. Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson - 8:05 PM pregame, 8:15 PM faceoff BROADCAST LINK
Previewing tonight’s games
The game that MTSN is broadcasting is in BOLD.
Brentwood-BA-USN (0-2-0) vs. Independence-Centennial (2-1-0) - 4:45 PM @ Centennial A
After dominating Page the way that they did last week, the Eagles should have no trouble with this Brentwood team. But, the Andrew Sallee factor could come into play (unless he can’t play, and the Bruins have to use Mattie Cox tonight). They might not get the puck past him as many times as they did Justin Iannuccilli back on Wednesday, but, I don’t think they’ll have to worry about wave-after-wave of attacks like those that Page threw at them in the second half of last week’s triumph; Brentwood have nowhere near that amount of depth. I don’t think the Bruins will get a lot of chances in this one, so, they’ll have to take advantage of the few that they get. (Watch me get this wrong, and the Bruins pull off a shocker.)
Game prediction: Indy
Page-Summit (1-1-1) vs. Station Camp-Liberty Creek-Nashville Christian (2-0-0) - 6:30 PM @ Centennial A
Page now have to bounce back immediately after that shock defeat last week. It’s not that they were bad against Indy; they were stonewalled by David Busby, and made mistakes that Indy took advantage of, and it all piled up quickly. Now, they’re taking on an unbeaten Station Camp. I’d say that the Bison have similar depth to Indy (Indy might have a little bit more), but I think Indy’s goaltending is better. The Spartriots should get back on the winning track here.
Game prediction: Page
Ensworth-Lipscomb-CPA (1-1-0) vs. Father Ryan (2-1-0) - 6:30 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
Both of these teams’ most recent game was against Montgomery Bell, with opposite results: Ensworth got trounced by the Big Red, while the Irish used a three-goal first period to defeat MBA. Ensworth have similar depth to the Big Red, but I think MBA have better goaltending, and I’d say that Father Ryan do, as well. I think Ensworth have more depth, but I think that the Irish are better in the crease. They may end up needing another jump-start like they got against MBA a couple of weeks ago, but, I think Ryan will pull this one out.
Game prediction: Father Ryan
Nolensville (2-0-1) vs. Franklin (2-1-0) - 7:40 PM @ Centennial B
Admirals head coach Todd Grosse will be back behind the bench tonight, with his two-game suspension complete. Unfortunately, Michael Mannion’s six-game suspension is only a third over, with two of the games served. And this is a game where they need Mannion. Franklin are coming off of a 2-0 loss to Hendersonville last Monday, where they were stonewalled by Griffen Rumbaugh. But, not only were they without Michael Mannion, but Ryan Mannion was also missing. I’d say they definitely need him tonight, as well. Franklin are deeper than the Knights, but there’s the Bingston Soundara factor. Franklin can’t just be physical; they have to get the puck past him multiple times. Is he going to be their boogeyman again? I’ll have to say yes.
Game prediction: Nolensville
JPII-MLK-GCS (0-1-1) vs. Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson (2-1-0) - 8:15 PM @ Centennial A
Back in January, these two teams put a trophy on the line for this game called the Rock Castle Cup, and they’re playing for it again tonight. I had nothing but praise for that game, and I typed up a column saying that GNASH needs more ideas like this one. The Commandos are coming off of their impressive win over Franklin last Monday, while the Knights haven’t played since their tie with the Rampage three weeks ago today. The Commandos are the favorites to take home the trophy this time. JPII aren’t as deep as Franklin, but Hendersonville can’t relax. Playing at least 80% the rate they did should get them the win. It’s a rivalry game, so, both teams will be giving 100%, though.
If this game ends in a tie, it will go down as a tie in the GNASH record book, but there will be a shootout to decide the trophy. I’m glad they moved it from Rink B to A, but I think this game deserves its own night on the GNASH calendar.
Game prediction: Hendersonville
Ravenwood (2-0-1) vs. Montgomery Bell (2-1-0) - 8:15 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
The Big Red finally get back on the ice after the loss to Father Ryan two weeks ago, and who do they have to face? None other than rivals Ravenwood. These two didn’t really become rivals until 2015-16, when MBA beat the Raptors to the GNASH Cup regular season championship, only for Ravenwood to get revenge in the Predators Cup Final. This repeated the following season (with the Raptors’ OT triumph in the 2017 Preds Cup Final killing A PERFECT SEASON for the Big Red). They haven’t met in a Preds Cup Final since, but they’ve played some big showdowns deep in the postseason, having met in the last two Preds Cup Losers’ Bracket Finals, with Ravenwood coming out on top both times. For me, this will be Tripp Bland’s first big test in his GNASH career. Yes, he was in the crease for the loss to Father Ryan two weeks ago, but I don’t think a lot of people expected that result. He won’t have to face Mason Reed, Cooper Hill, or Liam Powell, but he’ll have to go up against Keaton Moffitt, Grady Fernan, and Brady Friedman. Meanwhile, Ravenwood’s defense have to contend with Matthew Moore and Trace Graham one more time (but will it be the last time?). This might be a fun one. I really wish that this game and Nolensville/Franklin were making up the Wednesday doubleheader this week.
Game prediction: Ravenwood
