Previewing tonight’s games
The games that MTSN will be broadcasting are in BOLD.
Summit-Page (3-2-0) vs. Station Camp-Liberty Creek (1-3-1) - 7:10 PM @ Centennial A
The Spartans opened the season by winning their first three games by pretty handy margins, but now, they’ve suffered two head-scratching losses to Hendersonville and Brentwood. You can excuse the Hendersonville loss; the Commandos are the league leaders, after all. But Summit outshot the Bruins 43-8 on Monday, and lost 3-1. And this is a Summit team with a lot of good offensive talent, notable Zach Ellis, Aiden Garner, Hunter Haley, and Brayden Owen, just to name a few. Now, they’re going up against a Station Camp team fresh off of beating MBA on Monday night, and only losing 2-1 to Ensworth last week. The Bison are coming alive at a perfect time, right when they’re kicking off the second-third (games four through six) of a ten-game stretch between October 14 and November 21. They’re starting to feel like last year’s Father Ryan team: Good goaltending that can make enough saves to allow the small pool of talent the team has to steal the game. Can Summit get back on track, or will the Bison beat another top team?
Pick: Summit
JPII-MLK (4-0-0) vs. Montgomery Bell (2-1-1) - 8:30 PM @ Centennial B
The Knights put their perfect record on the line against a Big Red team that doesn’t seem ready for prime time yet. As I said in yesterday’s newsletter, they are last year’s team, but without Lee Guy. The Knights are also a pretty young team, but they’ve gelled rather quickly. After missing their win over Franklin last week, leading scorer Clayton Roach should be back in the lineup tonight. The last time these two teams met was back in January, when MBA beat JPII 4-1, just two nights after the Knights whipped up on Franklin. This game is also coming on the heels of a Knights win over the Admirals (although, it’s nine days after, not two). But I feel like the results will be different this time.
Pick: JPII
Tennessee Outlaws (2-2-0) vs. Hendersonville-Beech-Lawson (5-1-1) - 8:45 PM @ Centennial A
After holding off a ten-man Ravenwood that still came at them thick and fast last Thursday, GNASH’s longest-running supplemental team now go up against the league leaders, who have also been the busiest team during these first six weeks of the season; tonight, the Commandos become the first team this season to play their eighth game. They’ll finally get to slow down after tonight, as they only have two games to play in November. This is a big game for Hendersonville, as, I’ve said previously, should they win tonight, I think it would be good enough to get them into the Predators Cup. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had to face Dawson Reynolds in net for the Outlaws; both of his starts have resulted in 2-0 wins (in addition to last Thursday’s triumph over Ravenwood, Tennessee beat Indy by the same score on September 23). If the Outlaws want to shock the league leaders, I think they need to give him the crease.
Pick: Hendersonville
