Tennessee Outlaws (0-1-1) vs. Clarksville Kings (0-1-0) - 6 PM
The Outlaws got a deserved 3-3 tie out of Nolensville last Monday. Yes, they faced an untested Knights backup in Isaac Wenck for most of the second period, but it was 3-3 after two, meaning that Dawson Reynolds locked down the net for the third period. Combine that with Josh Kuehn and James Daniel scoring for them, and that’s the kind of result that can boost their confidence going forward. The Kings, meanwhile, lost 9-1 to Station Camp, not helped by the fact that they only had 12 skaters. Like I said in Thursday’s newsletter, the Kings’ speed has clearly improved, thanks to having their own place to work, and getting a full offseason to figure out the areas they need to improve in, but the Bison’s bench depth eventually wore them down. While Aidan Hasse played (and scored their only goal), his younger twin brothers, Brock and Camden, were away on travel duties (they play for the Indiana Elite, so, they have to cross over a whole other state just to get to practices). Will they be available tonight? If so, I’d give the Kings more than a half-decent chance of winning, or at least, getting a tie. If not, well, they might hang with the Outlaws longer than they did Station Camp, but, I don’t think they’d be pulling an upset.
Game prediction: Outlaws
Montgomery Bell (2-0-0) vs. Father Ryan (1-1-0) - 7:45 PM
When these two teams met last season, I made a confident prediction that MBA wouldn’t have much trouble with Father Ryan, based on the teams’ first few results of the season. I got it way wrong, as the game ended in a 2-2 tie, thanks to a combination of scrappy play from the Irish, and my thought that MBA didn’t really push things. These two teams didn’t have a lot of turnover, but it’s where the turnover occurred that tells the story: MBA had to replace both goaltenders, plus a good defenseman in Michael Dattilo, while Father Ryan had to replace Colin Sullivan. However, this is where Father Ryan only having 18 players concerns me. After beating a weak Brentwood team 5-2 to open the season, they lost 2-0 to an Indy-Centennial team that I feel is only a little better than Brentwood. Meanwhile, MBA have already scored 16 goals across two games, and if that isn’t scary enough, Matthew Moore already has five goals, while Trace Graham and Ethan Moore have each scored three. If MBA actually push this time, I think they can get the job done, and go to 3-0-0.
Game prediction: MBA
