Recapping last night’s games

Ensworth-Lipscomb-CPA 8 (1-0-0), Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Lebanon 4 (0-2-0)
With just over 2:30 left in the first, and the Bears on the penalty kill, Ethan Smith intercepted a pass at center, and immediately fed it to Jordan Antar, who took it into the Ensworth zone, and fired it into the back of the net from the high slot to score his first goal since his return to the league. Just 23 seconds later, with the Ice Tigers still on the power play, Logan Lakoff took a shot from the right circle that went through traffic into the back of the net for his first GNASH goal. With 39 seconds left in the first, and Mt. Juliet now on the power play, Shaurya Arora turned the puck over in his own zone, and Clayton Roach fed it out in front to Austin Reigle, who put it in the back of the net to score his first GNASH goal, and it was 2-1 Ensworth after one. Just over 100 seconds into the second, William Towery scored his first GNASH goal, when he fired the puck through traffic from the blue line into the back of the net. Nearly five minutes later, with Mt. Juliet on the power play again, Jackson Blevins hammered a Wynston Hudson centering pass into the back of the net from the top of the left circle. With 92 seconds left in the middle frame, Henry Oeser carried the puck to the front of the Mt. Juliet net. He got hooked, but got off one shot that was stopped by Shepard Hulsey, then banged in the rebound to cancel the penalty, and give Ensworth a 4-2 lead after two. Nearly 3:30 into the third, and MJ on the power play once more, Antar scored his second goal of the game, when he shot the puck into the roof of the net from just above the right wing faceoff dot. But Ensworth soon took over the game. Just over five minutes later, Trex Hooper redirected a Lucas Tarquine centering pass into the bottom left-hand corner of the Mt. Juliet net. Then, 50 seconds after that, Clayton Roach scored his first goal with his new team, when he took the puck from a crowd in front of the Mt. Juliet net, took a few steps to his left, and backhanded it into the bottom right-hand corner. He scored again nearly 2:20 later, when he and Lakoff countered with a 2-on-1 into the Mt. Juliet zone. This time, Roach closed in on the left-hand side of the net, and shot it in. 28 seconds later, Carter Spencer made it 7-4 Ensworth, when he took a shot from the left Ensworth circle that went up and over the left shoulder of Mattie Cox - playing in goal in place of Reuben Allen - into the top left-hand corner of the net. With 65 seconds left, Mt. Juliet pulled Hulsey, but this immediately backfired, as Logan Green scored the final goal on the empty net just eight seconds later. Hulsey did really well to hold off Ensworth as long as he did, but they overwhelmed him in the end. Meanwhile, Cox did an incredible job in her first GNASH game since, I believe, the 2023-24 season (I think that was the season that she was on the USN roster). She’s a senior, and the only goalie in the pool that’s not on a team. Considering that Ensworth and Brentwood each only have one goalie, I wouldn’t be surprised if she got called up again (by rule, she’s supposed to lose her place in the pool for a bit, but, since she’s the only one there, oh, well!). Anthony Giampaolo was suspended for tonight’s game for getting into a fight on Monday, and will miss next week’s, too.

Page-Summit 6 (1-0-0), JPII-MLK-GCS 2 (0-1-0)
With just over six minutes left in the first, and JPII on a 5-on-3, Reese Davidson took a shot from the right circle that beat Justin Iannuccilli five-hole, one JPII’s first shot of the game (and season). With 35 seconds left in the first, Brayden Owen stole the puck in the JPII slot, carried it to the front of the net, and slipped it past Brayden Owen, and it was 1-1 after one. Nearly 5:30 into the second, Madden Chandler took a shot that Owen saved, but Hudson Halters was standing to his right, and knocked the rebound in. 56 seconds later, with Page on the power play, Aiden Meyer put the puck in front for Halters, who dug it out of Ian Sullivan’s skates, and shot it in. 50 seconds after that, Jagger Dwyer scored his first GNASH goal, when a blocked Hugo Ford shot came right to him in the slot, and he one-timed it in, and it was 3-2 Spartriots (again, my nickname for them) after two. Page took over the game in the third. Just 13 seconds in, B. Owen scored on a centering pass from Halters, as he stood all alone at the left-hand side of the net. With 2:05 left, Reeve Gabele added an empty-netter, and Liam Garner scored the game’s final goal with 63 seconds left with Collier Owen in net. Like Shepard Hulsey, Collier Owen did a great job of holding back Page for as long as he could.
