Recapping last night’s games

The six Tier 1 teams who are competing for the GNASH Cup have two records next to their score: their second half record, and their GNASH Cup record. If a team has an asterisk (*) next to their GNASH Cup record, it means that they have been eliminated from GNASH Cup contention.

Montgomery Bell 6 (2-1-3, 8-1-4), Ravenwood 1 (1-6-0, 4-10-0*)
Trace Graham scored the first goal of the game with 3:30 left in the first period, when he intercepted a Raptors’ stretch pass attempt inside the Ravenwood zone, carrying it to the front of the net, and backhanding it into the roof; he’d had a goal waved off earlier in the period, after Lee Guy caused Ravenwood goalie Brady Miller to be out of position for the shot. The Big Red led 1-0 after one. Just 46 seconds into the second, Graham scored his second when Guy found him in the bottom of the right circle, and Graham backhanded it in once more. 61 seconds later, Abe Lasher led a 2-on-1 rush, firing the puck into the back of the net from the right hash marks. The 3-0 held up until the last minute of the second, when Duke D’Alba found Ethan Moore all alone in the Raptors’ slot; D’Alba fed the puck to Moore, who closed in on goal, and roofed it, and it was 4-0 after two. 56 seconds into the third, Jack Ready scored a Senior Night Goal on the power play for the Raptors, when Jake Farrell intercepted a Lee Guy pass right at the MBA blue line (a rare Guy blunder; he was inches from exiting the zone when he decided to pass it), and sent the puck to the front of the net, with Ready eventually backhanding it in. For a while, it looked like Ravenwood would make it 4-2, but nearly six minutes after Ready’s goal, Moore scored his second when he tipped a Michael Dattilo shot from the right point under Miller’s glove and in. Matthew Moore then scored the game’s last goal with 2:20 left, when he fired the puck into the back of the net from the bottom of the left circle. MBA didn’t win the GNASH Cup last night, thanks to Franklin’s win over Mt. Juliet, but now, they just need a tie against Father Ryan next Monday to do so. They also can get as high as the 3 seed for the Predators Cup.

Next game for both teams
Ravenwood: Predators Cup first round game vs. Summit-Page - Date and time TBA
Montgomery Bell: Next Monday vs. Father Ryan - 7:40 PM @ Centennial A

Franklin 6 (3-3-1, 9-3-2), Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill 0 (2-3-1, 4-7-2*)
Both of Franklin’s first period goals came off of odd plays. The first goal - scored by MacLaine Butters - occurred when Quinn Spencer took a shot from the right point that was blocked; desperate to stop play, Mt. Juliet goalie Noah Smartt came out of his crease to try and cover up the puck, only for it to be too far away, allowing Butters to swipe it, and put it in the empty net. This goal came nearly six minutes into the first. Just over four minutes later, Hank Hayes took a shot from the left point that went off a Bears stick and hit the glass, landing at the right-hand side of the net, where Houston Veile was waiting to slam it home, and the Admirals had a 2-0 lead after one. Cael Lewis scored the only goal of the second period, when he rifled home a snapshot from the top of the right circle into the bottom corner of the right-hand side of the Bears’ net. 3:30 into the third, Kasper Thuresson shot the puck into the bottom corner of the left-hand side of the MJ net to make it 4-0 after Hudson Richards found him in the slot all alone. Nearly two minutes later, Gavin Akers raced to the front of the MJ net, and fired the puck home to make it 5-0; this goal came on the back of an odd occurrence, as well: at center ice, Parker Triplett passed the puck to Jacob Turner with such force, it caused Turner to drop his stick, then trip and fall over it, leading to the turnover that gave way to the goal. Cole Poynor scored the game’s last goal with 20 seconds left (exactly 20.0 seconds, too), when he pinballed the puck between Smartt’s legs and in from the right circle, meaning that Franklin won both games against Mt. Juliet by a 6-0 score this season. Senior Night Goals for Butters, Lewis, Akers, and Poynor. So, the Admirals snap the three-game losing streak and four-game winless streak, but now, everything is out of their hands; they have to wait until next Monday to find out if they’ve won the GNASH Cup, and where they’ll end up in the Preds Cup bracket. In the case of the latter, the best seed they can get is the 3, and the worst is the 5.

Next game for both teams
Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill: Next Monday vs. Pope Prep-MLK-GCA - 8:25 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
Franklin: Predators Cup first round game - Opponent TBD - Date and time TBA

Station Camp-Liberty Creek 5 (3-4-0), Tennessee Outlaws 3 (3-2-0)
Jadon Robertson scored the first goal of the game just 91 seconds into the first period, with Clive Keeler tying it up 4:02 later, and it was 1-1 after one. No one scored in the second, so the score remained as such after two. 78 seconds into the third, Jacob Schenk gave the Outlaws the lead, but just over two minutes later, Joey Siciliano tied the game up at 2-2, then gave the Bison the lead back 95 seconds later. Just over four-and-a-half minutes later, Dalton Alejandro tied the game at 3-3, before Tommy Siciliano scored the winning goal just over two minutes afterwards, with Austin Givens scoring the game’s final goal on an empty netter 50 seconds later. Despite the loss, the Outlaws can still get the Hine Cup 1 seed, but now, they must beat Rutherford tomorrow, or that is gone. If they fail to beat both the Rampage and Brentwood, who the Outlaws finish the regular season against next Monday, they could fall as far as the 6 seed.

Station Camp-Liberty Creek: Henry Hine Cup first round game - Opponent TBD - Date and time TBA
Tennessee Outlaws: Tomorrow vs. Rutherford Rampage - 7:30 PM @ Antioch-North

Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb 6 (4-2-1), Summit-Page 1 (5-2-0)
Cam Fowler scored the game’s opening goal just 1:43 into the first. Nearly eight minutes later, JT Borland made it 2-0 Ensworth, and that was the score after one. 5:30 into the second, Borland scored his second to make it 3-0, before Aiden Meyer got the Spartans on the board 71 seconds later. 6:01 after that, Trex Hooper scored his first goal of the night, and the Ice Tigers had a 4-1 lead after two. Hooper scored his second goal 82 seconds into the third, with Borland finishing his hat trick by scoring the game’s final goal nearly three minutes later. The result of the game hands Ensworth the 2 seed for the Predators Cup, but if not for the loss to Father Ryan last week, they absolutely could’ve (should’ve) been the 1.

Summit-Page: Predators Cup first round game vs. Ravenwood - Date and time TBA
Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb: Predators Cup first round game vs. 7 seed - Date and time TBA

Hendersonville-Beech-Gallatin 8 (2-3-1), Independence-Ravenwood 2 2 (0-6-0)
Now, I was finishing packing up after the Mt. Juliet-Franklin game, so, I saw Carter Morrison score the game’s first goal on a breakaway where he slid the puck into the back of the net on a backhander from the right-hand post, this goal coming nearly five minutes into the game. Catcher Greyson was terrific in the Indy crease in the first period. I left the building when the second started, so, it’s generic commentary from here. Just over four minutes into the second, someone scored to make it 2-0 Commandos (the box score doesn’t say who; apparently, if someone wears a different jersey number, and the scoresheet doesn’t acknowledge this, they don’t get credit for their goal! That sucks for the kid!). More than three minutes after that, Morrison scored his second to make it 3-0, with Landon Croft making it 4-0 just 32 seconds later. With just under 90 seconds left, Dominick Harpole scored, and it was 5-0 Hendersonville after two, as they’d finally managed to solve Greyson. Nearly two minutes into the third, Gideon Drobnick made it 6-0, with Morrison completing his hat trick just 76 seconds later, before Gus Libby got the Eagles on the board 16 seconds after that. Nearly five minutes after Libby’s goal, Croft scored his second, before Landric Mayeski scored a Senior Night Goal with just 10 seconds left. The result of the game means that Indy will be the Hine Cup 8 seed, which has been inevitable for more than a month now.

Next game for both teams
Hendersonville-Beech-Gallatin: Next Monday vs. USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture - 6:45 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
Independence-Ravenwood 2: Next Monday vs. Centennial - 7 PM @ Centennial B

Rutherford Rampage 4 (5-1-0), Brentwood 2 (3-2-1)
Justin Dickinson scored the game’s first goal just 44 seconds into the first period, and the 1-0 lead for the Rampage held up all the way through the end of the second period. Zane Cesarone tied the game up just 20 seconds into the third, only for William Haynes to give the Rampage the lead back exactly two minutes later. With just under five minutes to go, Jack Schultz tied the game up, but right after the goal, he got a 2-and-10 for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Rampage took advantage, with Eddie Maze scoring the game-winner on the power play 43 seconds after Schultz’s goal and penalty, followed by Dickinson scoring the game’s final goal 28 seconds later. This is a big win for the Rampage, as it means that they just need a tie with the Outlaws tomorrow to claim the Henry Hine Cup 1 seed. As for Brentwood, this is a tough loss, because they can’t be the 1 seed now, and their hopes of being the 2 seed are also not great because Centennial, who currently occupy second place in Tier 2, play against Indy to close out the regular season next Monday, and I’m pretty sure that David Busby will start in goal this time, because a high seed in this Hine Cup seems more crucial this time around.
