Recapping last night’s games

The six Tier 1 teams who are competing for the GNASH Cup have two records next to their score: their second half record, and their GNASH Cup record. If a team has an asterisk (*) next to their GNASH Cup record, it means that they have been eliminated from GNASH Cup contention.

Father Ryan 6 (2-1-0, 5-5-0), Ravenwood 2 (0-3-0, 3-7-0*)
Normally, I list the goals in the order in which they were scored according to the scoresheet, but it says that Luke Pierce scored the game’s opening goal with no time having run off the clock in the first period, and while I can believe that he scored (it was his first GNASH goal, by the way), I don’t think he scored with no time having run off. The Irish had four goals in the first, each scored by a different player: Colin Sullivan, Noah Deffenbaugh (his first GNASH goal), Austin Hester, and Colton Edwards, meaning it was 4-1 Ryan after one. In the second, Edwards scored a second, and Harper Howard collected his first goal of the season, as well. Liam Powell scored the game’s final goal with just over five minutes left in the second. Colin Gower made his first start for the Raptors in goal, having only previously appeared in Ravenwood’s first game against Franklin back on October 2, when he played the entirety of the third period, replacing Brady Miller. The Raptors are on a three-game losing streak for the second time this season. The Irish are still in the GNASH Cup hunt - but barely - thanks to this win and the MBA-Franklin tie.

Next game for both teams
Father Ryan: Monday vs. Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill - 6:45 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
Ravenwood: Monday vs. Pope Prep-MLK-GCA - 7 PM @ Centennial B

Station Camp-Liberty Creek 6 (1-2-0), USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture 4 (1-3-0)
McClain Gregory scored the game’s first goal with four-and-a-half minutes left in the first, with Reese McCormick adding a tally 94 seconds later, and it was 2-0 Bison after the first. Brody Wales got USN on the board just under four minutes into the second, and the 2-1 score held up for almost seven minutes, before Dylan Karandjeff made it 3-1. Just 78 seconds later, Barrett Teasdale scored a power play goal, and it was 3-2 Station Camp after two. Jadon Robertson scored to make it 4-2 Bison just under two minutes into the third, with Teasdale scoring his second just under four minutes later, before Gregory scored his second 61 seconds after that to make it 5-3. Exactly three minutes later, Drake Hughes scored for the second straight game to make it 5-4, and it looked like we would have a grandstand finish, but just 20 seconds later, Robertson scored the game’s final goal. So, the Bison avenge the draw from September 25, and get their second win of the season. Mattilda Cox played in goal for USN, and the fact that she only allowed one more goal than Ben Schwarz did in the first game is pretty good.

Next game for both teams
Station Camp-Liberty Creek: Monday vs. Brentwood - 8:30 PM @ Centennial B
USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture: Monday vs. Independence-Ravenwood 2 - 5:15 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp

Montgomery Bell 2 (0-0-3, 6-0-4), Franklin 2 (2-0-1, 8-0-2)
Hunter Wieck comes up big for MBA again. And this time, the Big Red had a bigger margin to make up. With just under four minutes left in the first, Maclaine Butters shot a loose puck into the roof of the net from the right edge of the slot, and it was 1-0 Admirals after one. Franklin won the opening draw for the second; Brandon Mills carried the puck into the MBA zone, where Graeme Rutter poked it away, but Kasper Thuresson regained it for Franklin, and put it out in front for Butters, who waited Wieck out before firing the puck into the back of the net to give the Admirals a 2-0 lead just 12 seconds into the middle frame. Wieck tried to argue that the net was dislodged, and while it was slightly off at the left-hand post, it didn’t make a difference. More than three minutes later, Lee Guy got the Big Red on the board when the puck came to him in the left circle, allowing him to one-time into the net. 76 seconds after that, Matthew Moore scored the game’s final goal when he shot the puck into the roof of the net from the high slot; I think Franklin goalie Grayson Butters may have been screened somewhat. The game’s key moment came in the second, when Wieck made a breakaway save on Cael Lewis while Franklin led 2-0. So, both games between these two end in ties. It’s not a bad result for Franklin, as they have three winnable games left on the schedule (against Ensworth, Pope, Mt. Juliet, and Summit). For MBA, though, it’s a third straight tie, and if they want to win the GNASH Cup and get the Predators Cup 1 seed, they’re going to have to start winning games, or they could miss out on both by virtue of the most wins tiebreaker.

Next game for both teams
Montgomery Bell: Monday vs. Summit-Page - 7:40 PM @ Centennial
Franklin: Next Wednesday vs. Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb - 8:40 PM @ Centennial A

Tennessee Outlaws 7 (2-1-0), Independence-Ravenwood 2 3 (0-3-0)
Jacob Schenk led all scorers with a hat trick, with the Outlaws’ other goals coming from Josh Kuehn, Clive Keeler, and the first GNASH goals for Blake Rhodehamel and Logan Wood. The box score says that Landric Mayeski and Finn Kallberg both scored for Indy, but the box score also credits their first goal of the game to Trent Pavlik. A goaltender. In the first period. On the power play. Having a hard time believing that one, so, I’m guessing that was Mayeski, too. The Outlaws complete a regular season sweep of the Eagles, who could wrap up the 8 seed for the Hine Cup next week, but quite a few things would have to happen first. It is looking likely, though, that they’ll grab 8 seed at some point.

Next game for both teams
Tennessee Outlaws: Monday vs. Hendersonville-Beech-Gallatin - 8:25 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
Independence-Ravenwood 2: Monday vs. USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture - 5:15 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp

Rutherford Rampage 4 (3-0-0), Centennial 2 (3-1-0)
Justin Dickinson needed just 93 seconds to score the game’s first goal. Carson Brownlow made it 2-0 Rampage on a shorty just under eight minutes later, and it was 2-0 after one. Lonnie Maze gave RuCo a 3-0 lead just 34 seconds into the second on the power play, and the score held up until 22 seconds left in the middle frame, when Brendan Mitchell got the Cougars on the board. Tucker Wilhelm added a fourth for the Rampage just over two minutes into the third, with Aiden Gardner scoring the game’s final goal just under two minutes later. A great win for the Rampage, who snap Centennial’s three-game winning streak to start the second half. The Cougars are the first team to wrap up their pre-Christmas slate of games; a showdown with Brentwood in January awaits, as the Bruins could have a say in the race for the Hine Cup 1 seed.

Next game for both teams
Rutherford Rampage: Next Wednesday vs. USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture - 7:10 PM @ Centennial A
Centennial: TBA, sometime in January
