MTSN GNASH Newsletter for November 9, 2023
Apologies for this newsletter coming into your mailbox much later than normal. I was planning on sending a normal newsletter in the morning, then sending an extra edition with next week’s schedule in the evening, as said schedule was not published on the GNASH website until earlier this afternoon. However, I decided to wait for the schedule to be posted, and to send you all one newsletter with all the needed information. Thank you for your continued support. It doesn’t go unnoticed.

Recapping last night’s games
Summit-Page 4 (5-2-0), Tennessee Outlaws 2 (2-3-2)
Hunter Haley scored the opening goal near the halfway point of the first period, but just under 30 seconds later, Zach Ellis received a 2-and-a-10 for head contact. Despite having only 13 skaters because of illness, the Outlaws took advantage of Ellis’s absence, as Jacob Schenk and Dalton Alejandro both scored 80 seconds apart to give the Outlaws a 2-1 lead after one. No one scored in the second, so the 2-1 tally held up after middle frame, too. With their hopes of moving up in jeopardy, James Gilmartin scored twice in 62 seconds just past the midway point of the third to give the Spartans the win and promotion to Tier 1 and a Predators Cup berth. Ellis added the final goal with 14 seconds left; it was not an empty netter. With this result, it meant that Hendersonville would be staying in Tier 2.
Next game for both teams
Summit-Page: Monday vs. Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill - 7 PM @ Centennial B
Tennessee Outlaws: Monday vs. USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture - 7:40 PM @ Centennial A
Ravenwood 4 (3-4-0), Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill 3 (2-4-1)
The Raptors needed just 94 seconds to strike first, as Oliver Lutz was able to beat Korbin Vickrey from the bottom of the left circle. The 1-0 score held until just past the midway point of the second, when Liam Powell scored on a breakaway to make it 2-0 Raptors. At this point, the Bears were treading into dangerous waters; they could only surrender one more goal before having to get one themselves. Fortunately for them, with 3:30 left in the second, Ryan Woods came from behind the net to bury a loose puck as Raptors goalie Brady Miller had gotten out of position. Unfortunately, the Raptors re-extended the lead to two just 33 seconds later, when Brady Friedman took a shot that appeared to deflect off of a Mt. Juliet stick and go right into the top left corner of the net. Just over two minutes later, Jordan Antar potted a rebound from a saved Colton Vivrette shot to get the Bears back within one. However, with 18 seconds left in the period, Woods took an unnecessary match penalty for kicking. The Bears managed to kill the five-minute power play without allowing a goal, but Canon Kiser put Ravenwood back up by two with just over two minutes left in the game, when he got a long-range shot to clank in off the inside of the right-hand post. With just over 90 seconds left, Owen Appel picked up a cross-checking penalty. On a netmouth scramble, Jacob Thomas scored the game’s final goal with six seconds left to convert the power play. Even though Ravenwood won, the one-goal margin was good enough to keep Mt. Juliet in Tier 1 on goal differential, and send Brentwood down to Tier 2. For Ravenwood, the win alone kept them up. It’s going to be VERY weird knowing that we won’t get any more Battles of The ‘Woods this season. And a Brentwood-Centennial meeting in Tier 2 is going to be surreal.
Next game for both teams
Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill: Monday vs. Summit-Page - 7 PM @ Centennial B
Ravenwood: Next Wednesday vs. Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb - 9:15 PM @ Antioch-South
Centennial 6 (1-0-0), Station Camp-Liberty Creek 2 (0-1-0)
Much to my surprise, the Cougars started David Busby in goal for their second half opener, instead of Kade Henderson. This was the winning move, as Centennial totally dominated the game. Cooper Davis scored just 77 seconds into the game, with Aiden Knecht making it 2-0 just over five minutes later. Mark White got the Bison on the board, and it was 2-1 Centennial after one. Unfortunately for Station Camp, Centennial ran off with the game in the second, scoring their other four goals. Early in the period, Owen Boyer and Alex Aziminia each scored 17 seconds apart. Just after the halfway point, Nick Claas made it 5-1, before Brendan Mitchell added the Cougars’ final goal with just over three minutes left. Near the midway point of the third, Mason Campbell scored the game’s final goal. It’s a stunning step backwards for the Bison, who played Centennial so closely in the first meeting back on October 23.
Next game for both teams
Centennial: Next Wednesday vs. Tennessee Outlaws - 7:10 PM @ Centennial A
Station Camp-Liberty Creek: Monday vs. Hendersonville-Beech-Gallatin - 8:30 PM @ Centennial B
Hendersonville-Beech-Gallatin 7 (4-1-2), USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture 4 (2-4-1)
Unfortunately for the Commandos, their hopes of gaining a place in Tier 1 were dashed after Summit beat the Outlaws. As I predicted in yesterday’s letter, USN had Mattilda Cox start in goal. She handled the Commandos much better than she did Summit last week. Landon Croft opened the scoring just 66 seconds in. 3:54 later, he made it 2-0. Just over four minutes later, Barrett Teasdale got USN on the board, and it was 2-1 after one. Early in the third, Teasdale scored twice more to complete his hat trick, and give USN a 3-2 lead. The Commandos bounced back quickly. 55 seconds after Teasdale’s third goal, Gideon Drobnick tied the game. 4:11 later, Merrick Mott gave Hendersonville a 4-3 lead, which Braden Rose added to just 27 seconds later. With just under 90 seconds left in the second, Teasdale scored his and USN’s fourth goal, meaning it was 5-4 Commandos after two. In the third, a Colin Smith tally and a second goal for Mott ensured the victory for Hendersonville. After losing their season opener 6-0 to Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb on September 25, Hendersonville finish the first half on a six-game unbeaten streak. They’ll probably kick themselves for not seeing out the game against the Outlaws on October 9. If they’d managed to hang on and win that game instead of it ending in a 4-4 tie, they would be moving up to Tier 1, not Summit. People are saying Brentwood might run through everyone in Tier 2, but I think the Commandos can hold their ground if they turn up.
