Tonight’s MTSN broadcast

Station Camp-Liberty Creek vs. Summit-Page - 6:35 PM pregame, 6:45 PM faceoff BROADCAST LINK

Previewing tonight’s games

Both games will be played at Bellevue-Crisp (formerly Rink 1). MTSN broadcast in BOLD.

Hendersonville-Beech-Gallatin (1-1-1) vs. Centennial (0-2-0) - 5:15 PM
This is a critical game for both teams in the race for possible midseason promotion to Tier 1, especially for Centennial, because another loss would likely take them out of that race, and I can’t see either of the two teams that do win midseason promotion to Tier 1 having three losses (and there’s a very good chance of Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb moving up with a perfect 7-0 record). Hendersonville are coming off a good week, where they got a tie (but. honestly, it should’ve been a win) against the Outlaws after going down 3-0 after the halfway point of the first period, and a gritty 1-0 goaltending battle win against Sumner County rivals Station Camp. They have a big game against Summit-Page this Wednesday. Centennial, meanwhile, haven’t been on the ice since October 4, when they made up a 3-0 deficit on USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture, only for Ryan Barrett to score the game-winning goal with just 37 seconds left. I can’t sugarcoat this: The fact that Centennial lost to a USN team that had just 11 skaters because of injuries and some off playing football doesn’t bode well for their hopes of escaping Tier 2. Yes, Ben Schwarz played well in goal for USN, but Centennial should’ve taken the game after managing to tie it up; it should’ve been a sign that the Cougars having more skaters was wearing USN down. Instead, they lost on a shorthanded goal. The Cougars have to win games like that one, as well as tonight’s, because I believe that they have better players than Hendersonville. They’ve already lost to one of the three likeliest contenders for midseason promotion (Summit-Page), and play another one of the three this Wednesday (the Outlaws). Win both games, and they have a chance of salvaging their promotion hopes. Lose one of them, and you can pencil them in to your Tier 2 table for the second half of the regular season. Lose them both, you can use a pen, because there’s no coming back from four losses.

However, I am picking the Cougars to get it done tonight.

Station Camp-Liberty Creek vs. Summit-Page - 6:45 PM
The Spartans finally return to the ice to play their second game of the season after beating Centennial 7-3 three weeks ago tonight on the first night of play. It’ll be interesting to see how they shake off the rust. Meanwhile, I’m a bit baffled by the Bison. They look like the same team as last year, just without leading scorer Teagan Bartz. Also, a lot of these players were on the team that won the JV league championship last year. I thought that they would be better, but they look the same. After playing twice on opening week - where they ended up tying USN (with 10 skaters) 5-5 after Brody Wales scored the GTG with just seven seconds left, followed by a 7-0 whipping from Ensworth - they got back on the frozen water last Wednesday, suffering a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Sumner County rivals Hendersonville, unable to find the equalizer after Alex Williams scored the game’s only goal nearly four minutes into it. Summit are one of the best teams in Tier 2, and as I said in the Hendersonville-Centennial preview, are one of the three likeliest contenders for midseason promotion to Tier 1, along with the Outlaws and Ensworth.

I’m picking a comfortable win for Summit.
