MTSN GNASH Newsletter for October 21, 2023
SPECIAL SATURDAY EDITION!
Since there were only two games last night, and MTSN broadcast both of them, the podcast links are included with the game recaps.
Recapping last night’s games
Pope Prep-MLK-GCA 12 (2-3-0), Rutherford Rampage 2 (0-3-0) PODCAST LINK
Due to the game being on a Friday, both teams were missing travel players, but the Rampage were struck the hardest, with 11 missing. Despite the fact that Justin Dickinson managed to play (and score both of their goals), the defense couldn’t hold back a relentless Pope attack. Eight different Knights players scored, with four of them scoring two goals apiece. They were also missing some key players, including both Pellegrino brothers. Jacob Benoit didn’t have to do much in net in his first start for Pope. Sure, he gave up two goals, but, many goalies have trouble keeping Dickinson from scoring at least one. A big win for Pope, as it snapped a three-game losing streak, and a tough loss for Rutherford, who are in the middle of playing six games with no practices. This is the first GNASH game where the winning margin was 10 goals since February 10, 2022, when Father Ryan beat USN-BA-FRA 10-0 in the opening round of the Henry Hine Cup.
Next game for both teams
Rutherford Rampage: Monday vs. Father Ryan - 8:25 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
Pope Prep-MLK-GCA: Monday vs. Brentwood - 6:50 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
Montgomery Bell 8 (5-0-0), Father Ryan 3 (2-2-0) PODCAST LINK
Lee Guy needed only a minute to open the scoring. 71 seconds later, Ethan Sides scored on a rebound from a saved Michael Dattilo shot right off of a faceoff. Later in the first, Andrew Frech scored his first GNASH goal, and it was 3-0 Big Red after one. After a second from Guy and a first GNASH goal from Abe Lasher to make it 5-0, Colton Edwards snapped the Irish’s goal-scoring drought with a power play tally midway through the second. Sides scored his second of the game, followed by Edwards’s second (again on the power play), and it was 6-2 MBA after two. Colin Sullivan got Ryan within 6-3 with another power play goal, but late in the game, Guy finished off his hat trick, and Matthew Moore scored in the final minute to bring the contest to its 8-3 final. MBA now have a battle with Franklin on Monday for first place in Tier 1, while the Irish look to bounce back against Rutherford on Monday before having to face the Admirals themselves on Wednesday.
