Recapping last night’s games
Brentwood 1 (1-4-1), Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill 1 (1-3-1)
Payne Fielder had his best performance of the season, turning away 37 of 38 (my own personal count) Bears shots. Aidan Pustizzi put Brentwood up 1-0 in the first, when he flipped the puck over MJ goalie Brandt Balz into the back of the net. Bobby Kamos scored the tying goal in the second, as he had a shot that pinballed between Fielder’s legs before sliding over the goal line. As the game picked up, Mt. Juliet began generating more chances, and Fielder had to make more saves. Brentwood have one game remaining, Monday against Rutherford, while Mt. Juliet have two left: Against Father Ryan on November 6, and Ravenwood on November 8. The result of the game meant that the Irish and Pope Prep-MLK-GCA clinched places in Tier 1 for the second half of the regular season, and Predators Cup berths for the postseason.
Next game for both teams
Brentwood: Monday vs. Rutherford Rampage - 6:50 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill: November 6 vs. Father Ryan - 7:40 PM @ Centennial A
Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb 10 (5-0-0), Tennessee Outlaws 2 (1-2-1)
Ensworth took a 4-0 lead in the first period, with goals from JT Borland, Trex Hooper, Hudson Honeybone, and Spencer Kern (first GNASH goal). It took just under two-and-a-half minutes of the second for Ben Sonkin to make it 5-0. 12 seconds later, Jacob Schenk scored the first of the Outlaws’ two goals. Honeybone scored a second near the midway point of the middle frame, then Henry Cravens made it 7-1 with 26.9 seconds left in the second. The Ice Tigers scored their three remaining goals within four minutes in the third, as Henry Oeser scored his first GNASH goal, followed by one from Justin Nozko, and a second from Sonkin. Schenk scored his and the Outlaws’ second to bring the game to its 10-2 final. Thanks to Centennial’s tie with Indy, Ensworth are now on the verge of getting promotion to Tier 1. They can secure it on Monday, and they don’t even need to beat Centennial to do it. A Summit win over USN will clinch it for them.

Tennessee Outlaws: Monday vs. Station Camp-Liberty Creek - 6 PM @ Centennial B
Rutherford Rampage 5 (1-4-0), Ravenwood 1 (1-3-0)
The Rampage were boosted by the return of their #1 netminder, Jackson Wilson, from injury. Exactly halfway through the first period, Tucker Wilhelm scored the first goal. Bennett Nichols tied it up for Ravenwood just under three minutes later, before Justin Dickinson scored the game-winner almost two minutes later. Dylan Welch scored twice in the third, before Eddie Maze added an empty netter to bring the game to its 5-1 final. Wilson made 39 saves on 40 Raptors shots. This result makes the race to stay in Tier 1 very interesting. Rutherford have two games left, and could beat Brentwood if they produce another game like that from Wilson. Ravenwood have three tough games left, with two of them next week against MBA and Pope. If they don’t get their production in gear, we might be in for a massive shock.
Next game for both teams
Rutherford Rampage: Monday vs. Brentwood - 6:50 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
Ravenwood: Monday vs. Montgomery Bell - 8:25 PM @ Bellevue-Crisp
Franklin 3 (5-0-1), Father Ryan 0 (3-3-0)
Not much to say about this one. Maclaine Butters scored the game-winner just past the midway point of the first. The Admirals finally got a second from Cael Lewis with just over four minutes to go, before Gavin Akers added an empty netter with two seconds left. Zach Fonnesbeck was good in net again, but his team didn’t reward him at the other end. A smothering Franklin defense only allowed nine shots, all turned away by Chad Janson, who collected his first GNASH shutout. Still, as previously mentioned, the Brentwood-Mt. Juliet tie means that Ryan are safely in Tier 1 for the rest of the regular season, and will be playing in the Predators Cup in the postseason.

Centennial 7 (2-2-2), Independence-Ravenwood 2 7 (0-5-1)
It’s been nearly 12 hours since this game finished, and I still can’t believe what I saw. Centennial took a 7-3 lead with 6:17 left, only for the Eagles to manage to come all the way back and score the tying goal with 18 seconds left. Let’s map out how this unfolded. Rhett Gordon scored the first goal of the game on a 2-on-1 just 76 seconds in. Just under three minutes later, Aiden Knecht scored the first of his three goals to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead, only for Indy to win the subsequent faceoff, and have Landric Mayeski score six seconds later. Mayeski then tied the game on the power play, when Cougar goalie Kade Henderson was caught looking out to his left, when Mayeski was to his right in the left circle. Nearly four minutes later, Brendan Mitchell scored after leading a breakout from the Centennial zone, then he added a second goal when he tipped in an Owen Boyer shot from the point. It was 4-2 Cougars after one, and they seemed to have righted the ship. Knecht scored his second goal in the second, when he redirected a Nick Claas pass from the blue line past Eagles goalie Trent Pavlik, and it was 5-2 Centennial after two. Aiden Gardner made it 6-2 Centennial early in the third, followed by Mayeski completing his hat trick just a couple of minutes later. Then Knecht completed his hat trick to bring the score to 7-3, and it felt like the Cougars had the game won. Then the comeback started. Torrin Kemble scored from the slot with 3:22 left to make it 7-4, with James Pierce scoring his first GNASH goal just 43 seconds later to make it 7-5. Kemble then scored his second of the game from the left circle of the Centennial zone with 48.8 seconds left; the Eagles started to call Pavlik to the bench, but didn’t need to yet. They did empty the net when Mayeski scored the tying goal 30 seconds later on a netmouth scramble.
A great result for Indy, but a critical blow for Centennial. Instead of having a chance to post a mark for the others to beat in the race for Tier 1 promotion, they now need USN to beat Summit on Monday - or have that game end in a tie - before beating Ensworth themselves to give themselves a fighting chance. The absolute worst thing they could’ve done was leave their fate in the hands of another team - Summit and USN - instead of taking care of it themselves. If they had managed to close out last night’s game, and the game against Hendersonville on October 16, they’d be second in Tier 2 right now with 8 points, and forcing the others below them to catch them. Instead, they are now 2-2-2, and beating Ensworth (which seems quite unlikely) would have them finishing at 3-2-2. The problem is, Summit already have three wins themselves, and own the head-to-head with Centennial, having beaten them 7-3 on September 25. The last-minute loss to USN on October 4 rears its ugly head again. When we look back on this 2023-24 Centennial team, we’re gonna wonder what might’ve been.
