Recapping last night’s games
Summit-Page 12 (4-1-0), USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture 5 (2-2-1)
USN jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the course of the first half of the opening period, with goals from Barrett Teasdale, Brody Wales, and Ryan Barrett, in that order. Seth Wagner, who started the game in goal for Summit, was pulled after the Barrett goal, lasting just 7:38 in net, being replaced by Brady Tessier. Zach Ellis scored on a one-timer late in the period to put the Spartans on the board. Within the first two minutes of the second, Summit had tied the game, with goals from Aiden Meyer and Aiden Garner. They later took the lead, when Sean Scott buried a rebound on the power play. A short time later, Teasdale tied the game with his second goal, also on the man advantage. Preston Hart then gave Summit the lead for good with 25 second left in the middle frame, when he tipped a Daniel Lawrence shot from the left point past Mattilda Cox, making her first GNASH start in goal for USN. It took Summit just 29 seconds of the third to get a sixth goal, when James Gilmartin redirected a centering pass from Ellis. Gilmartin got a second goal just over a minute later, firing the puck past Cox from below the left circle. Cam White got on the scoresheet just 45 seconds later, slipping the puck under Cox from the slot. 32 seconds later, Jayden Charnparnichkarn scored USN’s final goal on a breakaway. From there, White scored a second goal, followed by Meyer scoring a second shorthanded, then Brayden Owen and Cody Lightfoot scoring the final two goals, with Lightfoot’s coming on a breakaway with just a second to go. The result of the game meant that Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb would be promoted to Tier 1 for the second half of the regular season, and play in the Predators Cup in the postseason, while Centennial would remain in Tier 2 for the rest of the regular season, and play in the Henry Hine Cup in the postseason. I thought that starting Cox was an interesting decision, considering that USN are still in the race to move up to Tier 1, but, they’re not likely to last much longer. In fact, if they don’t beat the Outlaws tomorrow, they’re out of the race altogether.
Next game for both teams
Summit-Page: Tomorrow vs. Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb - 8:30 PM @ Centennial B
USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture: Tomorrow vs. Tennessee Outlaws - 7:10 PM @ Centennial A
Tennessee Outlaws 5 (1-2-2), Station Camp-Liberty Creek 5 (1-4-2)
It was 3-2 Outlaws at the end of a back-and-forth first, where each side held the lead at least once. Josh Kuehn scored the opening goal, before Station Camp got two from Mason Campbell and Sam Wiseman. Clive Keeler and Andrew Lietz scored to get the Outlaws the lead when the first frame ended. Each side scored once in the second, with Jacob Schenk scoring for Tennessee, and Joey Siciliano for the Bison. McClain Gregory then tied the game up in the third, before Siciliano scored a second to give Station Camp the lead, but, like the USN game on September 25, the Bison wouldn’t win. Schenk scored a second with 17 seconds left in the game to have it end 5-5, but unfortunately for the Outlaws, Summit’s win over USN meant they had to win this game to stay in the race for midseason promotion to Tier 1. Since they didn’t, they’re staying in Tier 2.

Brentwood 7 (2-4-1), Rutherford Rampage 5 (1-5-0)
The hockey gods giveth, and the hockey gods taketh away. Last Wednesday, the Rampage finally got their #1 goalie, Jackson Wilson, back from injury. He put on a clinic against Ravenwood, turning away 39 of 40 shots, while his teammates scored five goals of their own, giving the Rampage a must-needed win, and hope that they would stay in Tier 1. Then, Wilson got hurt again this past weekend in travel play, taking him out of the lineup once more. This meant that Abby Ricalday would once again start in the crease for the Rampage. She did well for the vast majority of the first period, her highlight being a breakaway save on Callahan Fielder. With 2:15 left in the first, Aidan Pustizzi gave the Bruins the lead, firing the puck past Ricalday from the right circle. With 25 seconds left, Carson Brownlow tied the game on a coast-to-coast effort, splitting the two remaining Brentwood defenders as he managed to get down the slot and slide the puck past Payne Fielder, but Pustizzi scored again with just under four seconds left in the first, when a failed clearing attempt ended up on his stick. Ricalday was replaced by pool goalie Tree Garrison (Hendersonville-Beech-Gallatin) to start the second. It took just 44 seconds of the second for Brentwood to go up 3-1, when Clayton Ellsworth shook off a shoulder check attempt from Justin Dickinson to backhand the puck past Garrison. Tucker Wilhelm managed to get the Rampage back within one despite having Brody Bohman leaning on him as he took the shot, putting the puck in the bottom right corner of the Bruins net from the right circle, but just 24 seconds later, Zane Cesarone put Brentwood back up by two when the Rampage failed to clear a rebound away from the front of their net. At this point, Garrison was pulled, and Ricalday sent back out. Trey Wilkins scored his first of the season 58 seconds after her return to make it 5-2 Bruins. The scoring ceased for almost eight minutes, before Cesarone got a second to make it 6-2. Dickinson managed to get the Rampage a third on a mini-breakaway, and it was 6-3 Brentwood after two. Will Haynes got Rutherford within two past the midway point of the third, only for Callahan Fielder to add an empty net tally just over three minutes later. Dickinson scored a second with the Rampage net once again empty on a netmouth scramble, and that brought the score to its 7-5 final.
The Bruins are very likely safe after this result, especially after Ravenwood’s loss to MBA. They finish the first half of the regular season 2-4-1. It could come down to goal difference. Brentwood scored 20 goals and allowed 25, but, official GNASH rules state that, for the goal difference tiebreaker itself, any goals in a game where a team won by more than six are removed for calculation. Let me clarify, if a team wins by more than six goals, any goals above the margin of six are not counted towards official goal difference. For example, if one team beats another 10-2, then only eight of those goals for the winning team are calculated for official goal difference. Brentwood beat Father Ryan 7-0 on October 18, so, only six of those goals count, meaning that Brentwood’s official goal difference for tiebreaker purposes is -6 (19 scored, 25 allowed).
As for Rutherford, they could not have been more unlucky. Their scheduling was brutal, as their final six games were crammed into a four-week span (with the last five being played over the course of 13 days). They have not had a single practice in these past few weeks, either, meaning they are unable to fix any issues outside of a game setting. Wilson’s first injury, when he got hurt at his travel practice the night before their 4-0 loss to Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill on October 11, began the Rampage’s unraveling. The fact that their October 20 game against Pope came on a Friday just added to their issues. Ricalday may have given up a lot of goals, but her teammates didn’t help her. Failed clears and turnovers led to more goals being piled on the Rampage. Last night, Ricalday finally got something that had been lacking in her three previous starts - offensive support from her teammates. But goals off of misplays still added up against Rutherford. Now, they have to play Franklin to close out their first half schedule tomorrow night, and unless they find a way to bring everything together like they did last week against the Raptors, I don’t see them winning this one. They’re going down, and it stinks, because this group has something to offer.
Next game for both teams
Brentwood: TBA; they have completed the first half of the regular season
Rutherford Rampage: Tomorrow vs. Franklin - 7:30 PM @ Antioch-North
Ensworth-Nolensville-Lipscomb 4 (6-0-0), Centennial 1 (2-3-2)
Thanks to Summit’s win over USN, this game didn’t matter by the time it started, as both teams’ fates for the rest of the season had been sealed by it. Ensworth had a 2-0 lead after one, with goals from JT Borland and Justin Nozko. They kept that lead after second, before getting two more goals from Thatcher Borden and Trex Hooper in the third. Cooper Davis broke the shutout, scoring Centennial’s last goal of the first half with 3:15 left. For Centennial, it’s a frustrating end to this portion of the season. They would’ve been firmly in the race for midseason promotion had they been able to hold onto their leads against Hendersonville and Independence. They’ll probably favorites to repeat in the Hine Cup. It just depends on who moves down. As for Ensworth, this is the fewest amount of goals they’ve scored in a game so far, and they still dominated in shots on goal, 36-13.

Montgomery Bell 5 (6-0-1), Ravenwood 2 (1-4-0)
Cooper Hill finally made his season debut, playing a GNASH game for the first time since the 2022 Predators Cup Final If Necessary Game on February 28 of that year, having not been allowed to play last year by the Jr. Predators. Ravenwood had a flurry of activity early, throwing many shots at the MBA net, and not allowing any on their end. But, Hunter Wieck was brilliant in the crease as usual, and he was rewarded just over four minutes in, when Trace Graham scored on a rebound from a saved Lee Guy shot. Nearly five minutes later, Matthew Moore made it 2-0, banking the puck off the back of Brady Miller’s right leg. Past the midway point of the second, Guy scored on a breakaway. Near the end of the second, Liam Powell got Ravenwood on the board, smashing in a rebound after Hill’s initial shot was saved by Wieck. Early in the third, James Lehrman tipped in a Michael Dattilo shot from the left point to give MBA a 4-1 lead. Just past the halfway point of the third, Powell got his second on a power play tally, before Guy got his second with just over a minute left, redirecting an Andrew Frech centering pass past Miller, to bring the game to its 5-2 final.
So, MBA finish the first half unbeaten, and put themselves in prime position for the GNASH Cup race when it begins in a couple of weeks. As for Ravenwood, lack of production beats them again. Now, tomorrow, they have to take on another fantastic goalie in Anthony Pellegrino. They’ll have to strike early, because if they lose tomorrow, then, Mt. Juliet would just need to beat Father Ryan next Monday to send Ravenwood down to Tier 2.
