Schedule update
The games scheduled for next Monday, January 15, have been rescheduled to Monday, February 5. All games will remain at their scheduled venue - Bellevue-Crisp - and all will still be played at their scheduled times.
Here are those games:
Brentwood vs. Tennessee Outlaws - 5:15 PM
Hendersonville-Beech-Gallatin vs. USN-BA-Nashville Christian-FRA-Goodpasture - 6:45 PM (More on this below.)
Pope Prep-MLK-GCA vs. Mt. Juliet-Wilson Central-Green Hill - 8:25 PM
That game for USN is the last one they have to play in the regular season. Their most recent game was December 6 against Rutherford (a 4-1 win). So, when they finally play that game against Hendersonville, it will have been one day shy of TWO FULL MONTHS since their last GNASH game.
This year’s regular season is ending two weeks later than the 2022-23 regular season did, and it lacked the midseason promotion/relegation round robin that took place last season, meaning we went straight into the second half of the regular season as soon as the first half was over. Having to move the Senior Game twice caused this to happen. (Well, maybe not the cause, but it’s the biggest catalyst; the start of the regular season being earlier and earlier each year hasn’t helped matters, either. Neither has shutting things down for the holidays in early December; as recently as the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season, regular season games were being played on December 18 - one week from Christmas Day. I understand not scheduling games during the midterm period, because the players need to study and get good grades, but we could get in quite a few games closer to Christmas because the rinks aren’t as busy.)
The playoff schedule is going to be an absolute mess, especially since the All-Star Game has already been scheduled for February 28. Games in the early rounds are going to be crammed in. And what’s worse, if anything else needs to be delayed, conflicts for the spring sports athletes in GNASH will immediately rise, because last month, the TSSAA voted to allow the regular season for spring sports to begin one week earlier than it has the past, starting this current school year (so, Monday, March 4).
Also, a correction from yesterday’s newsletter: Summit-Page is doing their Senior Night ceremony this week, not Father Ryan.
Sorry for the rant. See you Wednesday.
